Pinpoint Test
- CHECK THE MANUAL OPERATION OF THE LIFTGATE
- While manually opening and closing the liftgate, check the liftgate for:
- liftgate/wedge alignment
- strut operation (struts should push liftgate open when beyond half open)
- hinges (should move freely)
Does the liftgate open and close correctly?
- Yes: GO to 2 .
- No: REPAIR and ALIGN as necessary. REFER to Liftgate Alignment .
- While manually opening and closing the liftgate, check the liftgate for:
- CHECK THE LIFTGATE LEFT/RIGHT PINCH STRIP STATUS (LFT_PINCH / RT_PINCH) OPERATION
- Using the scan tool, view the LTM PIDs .
- Monitor the LTM PIDs LFT_PINCH and RT_PINCH while activating the left and right pinch strips.
Do the PIDs states change/agree with the pinch strip status?
- Yes: GO to 10.
- No: GO to 3 .
- CHECK THE PINCH STRIP SIGNAL CIRCUIT
- Disconnect: Inoperative Pinch Strip.
- For an inoperative left pinch strip, measure:
Left Pinch Strip Ground C4172 Ground Pin Circuit Measurement / Action Pin Circuit 1 CPR52 (YE/VT) - Ground - For an inoperative right pinch strip, measure
Right Pinch Strip Ground C4173 Ground Pin Circuit Measurement / Action Pin Circuit 1 CPR51 (YE/OG) - Ground
Is the voltage approximately 5 volts?
- CHECK THE PINCH STRIP SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: LTM C4174B.
- Ignition ON.
- For an inoperative left pinch strip, measure:
Left Pinch Strip Ground C4172 Ground Pin Circuit Measurement / Action Pin Circuit 1 CPR52 (YE/VT) - Ground - For an inoperative right pinch strip, measure:
Right Pinch Strip Ground C4173 Ground Pin Circuit Measurement / Action Pin Circuit 1 CPR51 (YE/OG) - Ground
Is any voltage present?
- Yes: REPAIR the circuit in question.
- No: GO to 5 .
- CHECK THE PINCH STRIP SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: LTM C4174B.
- For an inoperative left pinch strip, measure:
Left Pinch Strip Ground C4172 Ground Pin Circuit Measurement / Action Pin Circuit 1 CPR52 (YE/VT) - Ground - For an inoperative right pinch strip, measure:
Right Pinch Strip Ground C4173 Ground Pin Circuit Measurement / Action Pin Circuit 1 CPR51 (YE/OG) - Ground
Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms?
- Yes: GO to 6 .
- No: REPAIR the circuit in question.
- CHECK THE PINCH STRIP SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
- For an inoperative left pinch strip, measure:
Left Pinch Strip LTM C4172 C4174B Pin Circuit Measurement / Action Pin Circuit 1 CPR52 (YE/VT) 12 CPR52 (YE/VT) - For an inoperative right pinch strip, measure:
Right Pinch Strip LTM C4173 C4174B Pin Circuit Measurement / Action Pin Circuit 1 CPR51 (YE/OG) 14 CPR51 (YE/OG)
Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?
- Yes: GO to 11.
- No: REPAIR the circuit in question.
- For an inoperative left pinch strip, measure:
- CHECK THE PINCH STRIP RETURN CIRCUIT
- Ignition ON.
- For an inoperative left pinch strip, measure:
Left Pinch Strip Left Pinch Strip C4172 C4172 Pin Circuit Measurement / Action Pin Circuit 1 CPR52 (YE/VT) 2 RPR52 (VT/GY) - For an inoperative right pinch strip, measure:
Right Pinch Strip Right Pinch Strip C4173 C4173 Pin Circuit Measurement / Action Pin Circuit 1 CPR51 (YE/OG) 2 RPR52 (VT/GY)
Is the voltage approximately 5 volts?
- Yes: INSTALL a new pinch strip for the pinch strip in question. REFER to Pinch Strip Switch .
- No: GO to 8 .
- CHECK THE PINCH STRIP RETURN CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: LTM C4174B.
- Ignition ON.
- For an inoperative left pinch strip, measure:
Left Pinch Strip Ground C4172 Ground Pin Circuit Measurement / Action Pin Circuit 2 RPR52 (VT/GY) - Ground - For an inoperative right pinch strip, measure:
Right Pinch Strip Ground C4173 Ground Pin Circuit Measurement / Action Pin Circuit 2 RPR52 (VT/GY) - Ground
Is any voltage present?
- Yes: REPAIR the circuit.
- No: GO to 9 .
- CHECK THE PINCH STRIP RETURN CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
- For an inoperative left pinch strip, measure:
Left Pinch Strip LTM C4172 C4174B Pin Circuit Measurement / Action Pin Circuit 2 RPR52 (VT/GY) 21 RPR52 (VT/GY) - For an inoperative right pinch strip, measure:
Right Pinch Strip LTM C4173 C4174B Pin Circuit Measurement / Action Pin Circuit 2 RPR52 (VT/GY) 21 RPR52 (VT/GY)
Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?
- Yes: GO to 11.
- No: REPAIR the circuit.
- For an inoperative left pinch strip, measure:
- CHECK THE DETENT AND FORKBOLT SWITCH PIDs
- Using the scan tool, view LTM PIDs .
- Operate the liftgate manually while monitoring the LTM PIDs

- Detent Switch Status (DETENTSW)
- Forkbolt Switch Status (FORKBLT_S)
- Forkbolt Secondary Switch (FKSWSEC)

NOTE: The liftgate is in the primary position when the liftgate is in the full closed position. The liftgate is in the unlatch position when the liftgate is open and completely out of the striker.NOTE: If detent switch is active in the fully unlatched position, manually attempt to rotate the forkbolt towards the latched position.
Begin with the liftgate in the open position, then slowly close the liftgate into each of the latch positions specified.

Do the switch states agree with the table?
- Yes: GO to 11 .
- No: REFER to Diagnostic Routine L: B2908 .
- CHECK FOR CORRECT LTM OPERATION
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect and inspect all LTM connectors.
- Repair:
- corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
- pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
- Reconnect all the LTM connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
- Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
- Yes: CHECK OASIS for any applicable TSBs . If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no TSBs address this concern, INSTALL a new LTM. REFER to Liftgate/Trunk Module (LTM) .
- No: The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
