Pinpoint Test

NOTE: The following Pinpoint Test uses a test light to simulate normal circuit loads. Use only the test light recommended in the Special Tools table at the beginning of this section. To avoid connector terminal damage, use the Flex Probe Kit for the test light probe connection to the vehicle. Do not use the test light probe directly on any connector. See Special Tool(s) .
  1. CHECK THE WASHER SWITCH FRONT (F_WASH_SW) AND WASHER SWITCH REAR (R_WASH_SW) PIDs 
    1. Ignition ON.
    2. Using a scan tool, view SCCM PIDs  .
    3. While monitoring the SCCM PID F_WASH_SW, place the wiper/washer switch into the windshield wiper WASH position.
    4. While monitoring the SCCM PID R_WASH_SW, place the wiper/washer switch into the rear window wiper WASH position.

    Do each of the PIDs change to the ON state when the wiper/washer switch is in the applicable WASH positions? 

  2. CHECK THE WINDSHIELD WASH FUNCTION
    1. Place the wiper/washer switch in the windshield wiper WASH position.

    Does the washer pump operate in the windshield WASH position? 

    • Yes: GO to  9.
    • No: GO to .
  3. CHECK THE WASHER PUMP CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Disconnect: Washer Pump Motor.
    3. Measure:
      Positive Battery Terminal Washer Pump Motor

      Pin Circuit Measurement Pin Circuit
      - - Test Light 1 CRW23 (VT/GN)

    Does the test light illuminate? 

    • Yes: GO to  6.
    • No: GO to .
  4. CHECK THE REAR WASHER RELAY GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
    1. Disconnect: Rear Washer Relay.
    2. Measure:
      Rear Washer Relay Socket Ground

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    • Yes: GO to .
    • No: REPAIR the circuit.
  5. CHECK THE REAR WASHER RELAY
    1. Carry out the Relay - Micro ISO component test.

      Refer to RELAY - MICRO ISO for schematic and connector information.

    Did the rear washer relay pass the component test? 

    • Yes: REPAIR circuit CRW23 (VT/GN) for an open.
    • No: INSTALL a new rear washer relay.
  6. CHECK THE WASHER PUMP CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
    1. Ignition ON.
    2. Measure:
      Washer Pump Motor Washer Pump Motor

      1 CRW23 (VT/GN) Test Light 2 CRW14 (BU/WH)
    3. Observe the test light while placing the wiper/washer switch into the windshield WASH position.

    Does the test light illuminate when WASH is selected? 

    • Yes: INSTALL a new washer pump. REFER to Washer Pump .
    • No: GO to .
  7. CHECK THE WASHER PUMP CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR A OPEN
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Disconnect: Windshield Wiper Motor.
    3. Measure:
      Washer Pump Windshield Wiper Motor

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms between the washer pump and windshield wiper motor? 

    • Yes: GO to .
    • No: REPAIR the circuit.
  8. CHECK THE WASHER PUMP CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Disconnect: Windshield Wiper Motor
    3. Measure:
      Washer Pump Ground

    Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms between the washer pump and ground? 

  9. CHECK THE WASHER PUMP CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Disconnect: Washer Pump Motor.
    3. Measure:
      Positive Battery Terminal Washer Pump Motor

    Does the test light illuminate? 

  10. CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE REAR WASHER RELAY (COIL SIDE)
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Disconnect: Rear Washer Relay.
    3. Ignition ON.
    4. Measure:
      Rear Washer Relay Socket Ground

    Is the voltage greater than 11 volts? 

    • Yes: GO to 11  .
    • No: VERIFY BJB fuse 10 (10A) is OK. If OK, REPAIR the circuit.

      If not OK, REFER to the appropriate OEM WIRING DIAGRAMS to identify the possible causes of the circuit short.

  11. CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE REAR WASHER RELAY (SWITCH SIDE)
    1. Measure:
      Rear Washer Relay Socket Ground

    Is the voltage greater than 11 volts? 

    • Yes: GO to 12  .
    • No: VERIFY BJB fuse 82 (15A) is OK. If OK, REPAIR the circuit.

      If not OK, REFER to the appropriate OEM WIRING DIAGRAMS to identify the possible causes of the circuit short.

  12. CHECK THE REAR WASHER RELAY
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Carry out the Relay - Micro ISO component test.

      Refer to RELAY - MICRO ISO for schematic and connector information.

    Did the rear washer relay pass the component test? 

    • Yes: GO to 13  .
    • No: INSTALL a new rear washer relay.
  13. CHECK THE REAR WASHER RELAY CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
    1. Disconnect: Windshield Wiper Motor.
    2. Measure:
      Rear Washer Relay Socket Windshield Wiper Motor

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?
