Pinpoint Test

  1. IDENTIFY THE IGNITION SYSTEM
    1. Verify that the vehicle is equipped with a start/stop switch.

    Is the vehicle equipped with a start/stop switch? 

    1. Yes:  GO to  6.
    2. No  : GO to .
  2. CHECK THE IGNITION SWITCH STATE (IGN_SW_STATE) PID
    1. Ignition ON.
    2. Using a scan tool, view the BCM PIDs  .
    3. Monitor the IGN_SW_STATE PID while turning the ignition switch through all 4 positions (OFF, ACC, RUN and START).

    Does the PID match each ignition switch position? 

    1. Yes:  GO to  13.
    2. No  : GO to .
  3. CHECK THE ACC CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN OR SHORT TO VOLTAGE
    1. Ignition ACC.
    2. Monitor the IGN_SW_STATE PID with the ignition switch in the ACC position.

    Does the PID display "Acc"? 

    1. Yes:  GO to .
    2. No  : If the PID displays "Off" or "Unknown", REPAIR circuit CDC33 (VT/GN) for an open.

      If the PID displays "Run" or "Start", REPAIR circuit CDC34 (WH/OG) (RUN) or CDC35 (BU/WH) (START) for a short to voltage.

  4. CHECK THE RUN CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN OR SHORT TO VOLTAGE
    1. Ignition ON.
    2. Monitor the IGN_SW_STATE PID with the ignition switch in the RUN position.

    Does the PID display "Run"? 

    1. Yes:  GO to .
    2. No  : If the PID displays "Off" or "Unknown", REPAIR circuit CDC34 (WH/OG) for an open.

      If the PID displays "Acc" or "Start", REPAIR circuit CDC33 (VT/GN) (ACC) or CDC35 (BU/WH) (START) for a short to voltage.

  5. CHECK THE START CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN OR SHORT TO VOLTAGE
    1. Monitor the IGN_SW_STATE PID with the ignition switch in the START position.

    Does the PID display "Start"? 

    1. Yes:  GO to  13.
    2. No  : If the PID displays "Off" or "Unknown", REPAIR circuit CDC35 (BU/WH) for an open.

      If the PID displays "Acc" or "Run", REPAIR circuit CDC33 (VT/GN) (ACC) or CDC34 (WH/OG) (RUN) for a short to voltage.

  6. CHECK FOR RFA MODULE DTCs 
    1. Using a scan tool, perform RFA module self-test to retrieve DTCs  .
    2. Record all RFA module DTCs  .

    Is DTC B108A:12 present? 

    1. Yes:  REFER to Diagnostic Routine K: B108A:12 .
    2. No  : GO to .
  7. CHECK THE START/STOP SWITCH
    1. Disconnect: Start/stop Switch.
    2. Carry out the start/stop switch component test.

      Refer to OEM Wiring Diagrams - COMPONENT TESTING for schematic and connector information.

    Does the switch pass the test? 

    1. Yes:  GO to .
    2. No  : INSTALL a new start/stop switch. REFER to Start-Stop Switch .
  8. CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE START/STOP SWITCH
    1. Measure:
      Start/Stop Switch Ground

    Is the voltage greater than 11 volts? 

    1. Yes:  GO to .
    2. No  : VERIFY BCM fuse 28 (15A) is OK. If OK, REPAIR the circuit. If not OK, REFER to the appropriate wiring diagrams to identify the possible causes of the circuit short. REFER to OEM FUSE AND RELAY INFORMATION and OEM WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  9. CHECK THE START/STOP SWITCH VOLTAGE INPUT CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
    1. Disconnect: BCM C2280B.
    2. Measure:
      Start/Stop Switch BCM

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    1. Yes:  GO to 10  .
    2. No  : REPAIR the circuit.
  10. CHECK THE BCM START/STOP SWITCH GROUND INPUT CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
    1. Measure:
      Start/Stop Switch BCM

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    1. Yes:  GO to 11  .
    2. No  : REPAIR the circuit.
  11. CHECK THE BCM START/STOP SWITCH GROUND INPUT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
    1. Measure:
      Start/Stop Switch Ground

    Is the resistance to ground greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    1. Yes:  GO to 12  .
    2. No  : REPAIR the circuit.
  12. CHECK THE START/STOP SWITCH GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
    1. Measure:
      Start/Stop Switch Ground

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    1. Yes:  GO to 13  .
    2. No  : REPAIR the circuit.
  13. CHECK FOR CORRECT BCM OPERATION
    1. Disconnect and inspect all BCM connectors.
    2. Repair:
      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
    3. Reconnect the BCM connectors and all previously disconnected exterior system connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
    4. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    1. Yes:  CHECK OASIS  for any applicable TSBs  . If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no TSBs  address this concern, INSTALL a new BCM. REFER to BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) - WITHOUT INTELLIGENT ACCESS (IA) , or REFER to BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) - WITH INTELLIGENT ACCESS (IA) .
    2. No  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
