Pinpoint Test

  1. CHECK THE BCM BATTERY FEED CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
    1. Disconnect: BCM C2280G.
    2. Measure:
      BCM Ground

      - Ground

    Is the voltage greater than 11 volts? 

    1. Yes:  GO to .
    2. No  : VERIFY High Current BJB fuse B (100A) is OK. If OK, REPAIR the circuit. If not OK, REFER to the appropriate wiring diagrams to identify the possible causes of the circuit short. REFER to OEM FUSE AND RELAY INFORMATION and OEM WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  2. CONFIRM THE IA KEY ALLOWS VEHICLE ENTRY
    1. Connect: BCM C2280G.
    2. NOTE: Verify that the IA key is not inside the vehicle before proceeding with this step.

      With the driver door locked and the IA key within 1 m (3.28 ft) of the driver door, grab the driver door handle. The driver door handle is equipped with capacitive touch sensors to lock and unlock the door.

    Did the driver door unlock? 

    1. Yes:  GO to  4.
    2. No  : GO to .
  3. CHECK THE VEHICLE BATTERY
    1. Carry out the Battery Condition Test. REFER to DIAGNOSTIC ROUTINE A : Battery Condition Test.

    Is the battery OK? 

    1. Yes:  REFER to SYMPTOM CHART: HANDLES, LOCKS, LATCHES AND ENTRY SYSTEMS - ELECTRICAL to diagnose the IA concern.
    2. No  : CORRECT the battery condition.
  4. ATTEMPT VEHICLE START WHILE MONITORING MESSAGE CENTER
    1. With the vehicle in PARK and the IA key in the vehicle, press and hold the brake pedal, then press the start/stop switch while monitoring message center messages.

    Did the engine crank? 

    1. Yes:  Using a scan tool, PERFORM PCM KOEO self-test. REFER to the KEY ON ENGINE OFF (KOEO) ON DEMAND SELF-TEST to diagnose the no start concern.
    2. No  : If NO KEY DETECTED or STARTER SYSTEM FAULT displays in the message center, DIAGNOSE the PATS concern. REFER to SYMPTOM CHART(S) .

      If PRESS BRAKE TO START displays in the message center, DIAGNOSE the inoperative stoplamps. REFER to DTC AND SYMPTOM CHART(S) .

      If no message is displayed in the message center, GO to .

  5. CARRY OUT A RFA MODULE SELF-TEST
    1. NOTE: The RFA module is able to carry out a self-test with the ignition in the OFF mode. When the scan tool indicates "Turn the Ignition ON" or "Ignition ON", ignore this command and press or click the "continue" button.
      NOTE: RFA module communication is indicated by the completion of the self-test.

      Using a scan tool, perform RFA module self-test to retrieve DTCs  .

    Did the RFA module communicate with the scan tool? 

    1. Yes:  GO to .
    2. No  : REFER to SYMPTOM CHART: COMMUNICATION NETWORK .
  6. ACT ON RFA MODULE DTCs 
    1. Refer to DTC CHART: REMOTE FUNCTION ACTUATOR (RFA) for results of the RFA module self-test.

    Are any start/stop switch DTCs and/or BCM communication DTCs present in the RFA module? 

    1. Yes:  REFER to DTC CHART: REMOTE FUNCTION ACTUATOR (RFA) .
    2. No  : GO to .
  7. CHECK FOR IGNITION RUN MODE
    1. NOTE: The air bag warning indicator in the IPC illuminates and proves out only if the ignition successfully enters RUN mode.

      With the IA key still in the vehicle, monitor the air bag warning indicator in the IPC while pressing the start/stop switch for at least one second.

    Did the air bag warning indicator illuminate for approximately 6 seconds and then go out? 

    1. Yes:  REFER to DIAGNOSTIC ROUTINE B : Engine Does Not Crank (With Intelligent Access).
    2. No  : If other indicators in the IPC are illuminated, GO to .

      If there is no response from the IPC when pressing the start/stop switch, REFER to Diagnostic Routine G : The Ignition Key Cannot Be Returned to the OFF Position.

  8. ISOLATE THE RUN/START RELAY
    1. Disconnect: RUN/START Relay.
    2. Carry out the appropriate relay component test.

      Refer to OEM Wiring Diagrams - COMPONENT TESTING for schematic and connector information.

    Is the relay OK? 

    1. Yes:  GO to .
    2. No  : INSTALL a new RUN/START relay.
  9. CHECK THE RUN/START RELAY OUTPUT CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
    1. Disconnect: BCM C2280E.
    2. Measure:
      BJB BCM

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    1. Yes:  GO to 10  .
    2. No  : VERIFY BJB fuse 94 (30A) is OK. If OK, REPAIR the circuit. If not OK, REFER to the appropriate wiring diagrams to identify the possible causes of the circuit short. REFER to OEM FUSE AND RELAY INFORMATION and OEM WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  10. CHECK FOR POWER TO THE RUN/START RELAY
    1. Measure:
      BJB Ground
      G08028304

      RUN/START relay Ground

    Is the voltage greater than 11 volts? 

    1. Yes:  GO to 11  .
    2. No  : VERIFY BJB fuse 87 (5A) is OK. If OK, REPAIR the circuit. If not OK, REFER to the appropriate wiring diagrams to identify the possible causes of the circuit short. REFER to OEM FUSE AND RELAY INFORMATION and OEM WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  11. CHECK THE RUN/START RELAY CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
    1. Disconnect: BCM C2280F.
    2. Measure:
      BJB BCM

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    1. Yes:  GO to  14.
    2. No  : REPAIR the circuit.
  12. CHECK FOR POWER TO THE STOPLAMP SWITCH
    1. Disconnect: Stoplamp Switch.
    2. Measure:
      Stoplamp Switch Ground

    Is the voltage greater than 11 volts? 

    1. Yes:  GO to 13  .
    2. No  : VERIFY BJB fuse 59 (10A) is OK. If OK, REPAIR the circuit. If not OK, REFER to the appropriate wiring diagrams to identify the possible causes of the circuit short. REFER to OEM FUSE AND RELAY INFORMATION and OEM WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  13. CHECK THE STOPLAMP SWITCH INPUT TO THE BCM FOR AN OPEN
    1. Disconnect: BCM C2280B.
    2. Measure:
      Stoplamp Switch BCM

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    1. Yes:  INSTALL a new stoplamp switch. REFER to STOPLAMP SWITCH .
    2. No  : REPAIR the circuit.
  14. CHECK FOR CORRECT BCM OPERATION
    1. Disconnect and inspect all BCM connectors.
    2. Repair:
      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
    3. Reconnect the BCM connectors and all previously disconnected exterior system connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
    4. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    1. Yes:  CHECK OASIS  for any applicable TSBs  . If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no TSBs  address this concern, INSTALL a new BCM. REFER to BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) - WITHOUT INTELLIGENT ACCESS (IA) , or REFER to BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) - WITH INTELLIGENT ACCESS (IA) .
    2. No  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
