Pinpoint Test

  1. RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs  FROM THE IPC SELF-TEST
    1. Using a scan tool, perform the IPC self-test.

    Are any DTCs recorded? 

    1. Yes: REFER to DTC Chart: Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) .
    2. No: GO to .
  2. DETERMINE IF THE BRAKE WARNING INDICATOR OPERATES WITH THE PARKING BRAKE
    1. Ignition ON.
    2. Apply the parking brake while monitoring the brake warning indicator.

    Does the brake warning indicator illuminate with the parking brake applied? 

    1. Yes: GO to  8  .
    2. No: GO to .
  3. CARRY OUT THE IPC INDICATOR LAMP CONTROL ACTIVE COMMAND USING THE SCAN TOOL
    1. Ignition ON.
    2. Using a scan tool, view the IPC PIDs  .
    3. Select the IPC brake warning indicator (PBA_LMP) PID. Command the brake warning indicator on and observe the brake warning indicator.

    Does the brake warning indicator illuminate when commanded on? 

    1. Yes: GO to .
    2. No: INSTALL a new IPC. REFER to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) .
  4. CHECK THE PARKING BRAKE WARNING INDICATOR SWITCH PID
    1. Using a scan tool, view the BCM PIDs  .
    2. Select the BCM parking brake (PARK_BRK_SW) PID. Monitor the parking brake PID while applying the parking brake.

    Does the PID agree with the parking brake position? 

    1. Yes: GO to  11  .
    2. No: GO to .
  5. CHECK THE PARKING BRAKE POSITION SWITCH
    1. Disconnect: Parking Brake Position Switch.
    2. Connect a fused jumper wire:

    Does the brake warning indicator illuminate? 

    1. Yes: REMOVE the jumper wire. INSTALL a new parking brake position switch.
    2. No: REMOVE the jumper wire. GO to .
  6. CHECK THE PARKING BRAKE POSITION SWITCH GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Measure:
      Parking Brake Position Switch Ground

      - Ground

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    1. Yes: GO to .
    2. No: REPAIR the circuit.
  7. CHECK THE PARKING BRAKE POSTION SWITCH SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
    1. Disconnect: BCM C2280C.
    2. Measure:
      Parking Brake Position Switch BCM

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    1. Yes: GO to  11  .
    2. No: REPAIR the circuit.
  8. CHECK THE BRAKE FLUID LEVEL SWITCH OPERATION
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Disconnect: Brake Fluid Level Switch.
    3. Ignition ON.

    Does the brake warning indicator illuminate? 

    1. Yes: GO to  10  .
    2. No: GO to .
  9. CHECK THE BRAKE FLUID LEVEL SIGNAL AND RETURN CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TOGETHER
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Disconnect: BCM C2280F.
    3. Measure:
      Brake Fluid Level Switch Brake Fluid Level Switch

    Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    1. Yes: GO to  11  .
    2. No: REPAIR the circuits.
  10. CHECK THE BRAKE FLUID LEVEL SWITCH GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Measure:
      Brake Fluid Level Switch Ground

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    1. Yes: INSTALL a new brake fluid level switch.
    2. No: REPAIR the circuit.
  11. CHECK FOR CORRECT BCM OPERATION
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Disconnect and inspect all BCM connectors.
    3. Repair:
      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install newpins as necessary
    4. Reconnect the BCM connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
    5. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    1. Yes: CHECK OASIS  for any applicable TSBs  . If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no TSBs  address this concern, INSTALL a new BCM:

      REFER to BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) - WITH INTELLIGENT ACCESS (IA) , or

      REFER to BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) - WITHOUT INTELLIGENT ACCESS (IA) .

    2. No: The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
