Pinpoint Test

  1. RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs  FROM THE PCM KOEO SELF-TEST
    1. Using a scan tool, perform the PCM KOEO self-test.

    Are any DTCs recorded? 

    1. Yes: REFER to SECTION 3: SYMPTOM CHARTS .
    2. No: GO to .
  2. RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs  FROM THE IPC SELF-TEST
    1. Using a scan tool, perform the IPC self-test.

    Are any DTCs recorded? 

    1. Yes: For DTC U0100:00, REFER to Diagnostic Routine AR: U0100:00 .

      For all other DTCs  , REFER to DTC Chart: Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) .

    2. No: For the base IPC, GO to  4  .

      For the optional IPC, GO to .

  3. CHECK THE DISPLAY MODE MENU
    1. In the display mode menu, press the message center (LH steering wheel) switch to the right to display the tachometer.

    Does the tachometer display? 

    1. Yes: The tachometer is operating correctly at this time. The display mode was set to the tachometer off display.
    2. No: GO to .
  4. CARRY OUT THE TACHOMETER ACTIVE COMMAND USING THE SCAN TOOL
    1. Ignition ON.
    2. Using a scan tool, view the IPC PIDs  .
    3. Select the IPC tachometer (TACH_IND) PID. Command the tachometer on and off while monitoring the tachometer.

    Does the tachometer begin at 0 RPM, increase to 6, 000 RPM (optional IPC bar graph display), 7, 000 RPM (base IPC or IPC analog gauge display) then return to 0 RPM? 

    1. Yes: INSTALL a new PCM. REFER to POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) - 2.0L GTDI , or REFER to POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) - 3.5L TI-VCT .
    2. No: INSTALL a new IPC. REFER to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) .
