Pinpoint Test AD: The 4X4, 4X4 LOW Or 4X4 AUTO Message Center Indicator Is Never/Always On (If Equipped)

Normal Operation

The Instrument Cluster (IC) receives the Four-Wheel Drive (4WD) status from the 4X4 control module over the High Speed Controller Area Network (HS-CAN) communication bus. If the IC (Instrument Cluster) receives a message that the 4WD (Four-Wheel Drive) system is in the process of shifting from 2-Wheel Drive (2WD) to either 4X4 high or 4X4 low, the message center displays the message 4X4 SHIFT IN PROGRESS and the appropriate 4X4, 4X4 LOW or 4X4 AUTO message center indicator is turned off. If the IC (Instrument Cluster) receives a message that the 4WD (Four-Wheel Drive) system is not in the process of completing a 4X4 shift or the shift event has ended, the message center cancels the displayed message and the 4X4, 4X4 LOW or 4X4 AUTO message center indicator is turned on. If the 4X4 status message is missing for greater than 5 seconds, the IC (Instrument Cluster) sets DTC U0102 and defaults the 4X4 AUTO message center indicator off.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- 4X4 control module

- Message center concern

PINPOINT TEST AD : THE 4X4, 4X4 LOW OR 4X4 AUTO MESSAGE CENTER INDICATOR IS NEVER/ALWAYS ON (IF EQUIPPED)

AD1 CHECK THE 4WD (Four-Wheel Drive) SYSTEM OPERATION

- Test drive the vehicle and operate the 4WD (Four-Wheel Drive) system.

Does the 4WD (Four-Wheel Drive) system operate correctly?

Yes
GO to AD2.

No
REFER to Transfer Case.

AD2 CHECK THE DOOR AJAR MESSAGE CENTER WARNING INDICATOR

- Close all doors, liftgate and liftgate glass.

- Ignition ON.

- Open the driver door while monitoring the door ajar message center warning indicator.

Does the driver door ajar message center warning indicator turn off with the driver door closed and turn on with the driver door open?

Yes
GO to AD3.

No
GO to Pinpoint Test A. Pinpoint Test A: The Instrument Cluster (IC) Is Inoperative

AD3 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE IC (Instrument Cluster) SELF-TEST

- Check for recorded IC (Instrument Cluster) DTCs from the self-test.

Is DTC U0102 recorded?

Yes
GO to Pinpoint Test AV. Pinpoint Test AV: DTC U0102

No
INSTALL a new 4X4 control module. TEST the system for normal operation.
