Pinpoint Test AE: The Door Ajar Message Center Warning Indicator Is Never/Always On

Normal Operation

The Instrument Cluster (IC) receives the door ajar status for the LH front door, RH front door, LH rear door, RH rear door, liftgate, and liftgate glass ajar switch status from the Smart Junction Box (SJB) over the Medium Speed Controller Area Network (MS-CAN) communication bus. When the IC (Instrument Cluster) receives a message from the SJB (Smart Junction Box) that one or more doors are open or ajar, the IC (Instrument Cluster) turns on the door ajar message center warning indicator. If the door ajar status message is missing for greater than 5 seconds, the IC (Instrument Cluster) sets DTC U0140 and defaults the door ajar message center warning indicator on.

NOTE: If DTC U0140 is set in the SJB (Smart Junction Box), other symptoms may also be present such as high beam indicator, RH/LH turn indicators, instrument panel backlighting and Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- SJB (Smart Junction Box)

- IC (Instrument Cluster)

PINPOINT TEST AE : THE DOOR AJAR MESSAGE CENTER WARNING INDICATOR IS NEVER/ALWAYS ON

AE1 CHECK THE INTERIOR LIGHTING OPERATION

- NOTE: The interior lamp switch must not be in the dome defeat position.

Open and close each door, liftgate and liftgate glass while monitoring the interior lamps.


Do the interior lamps operate correctly with each door, liftgate and liftgate glass?

Yes
GO to AE2.

No
REFER to Lighting and Horns.

AE2 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE IC (Instrument Cluster) SELF-TEST

- Check for recorded IC (Instrument Cluster) DTCs from the self-test.

Is DTC U0140 recorded?

Yes
GO to Pinpoint Test AY. Pinpoint Test AY: DTC U0037 And U0140

No
GO to AE3.

AE3 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE SJB (Smart Junction Box) SELF-TEST

- Check for recorded SJB (Smart Junction Box) DTCs from the self-test.

Are any SJB (Smart Junction Box) DTCs recorded?

Yes
REFER to Body Control Systems for correct navigation of the DTC.

No
GO to AE4.

AE4 CHECK THE MESSAGE CENTER WARNING INDICATOR FUNCTION

- Ignition OFF.

- Disconnect: PCM C175B.

- Ignition ON.

- Monitor the powertrain malfunction (wrench) and engine over-temperature message center warning indicators.

Do the powertrain malfunction (wrench) and engine over-temperature message center warning indicators remain off with the PCM connected and turn on when disconnected?

Yes
INSTALL a new SJB (Smart Junction Box). TEST the system for normal operation.

No
INSTALL a new IC (Instrument Cluster). REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) . TEST the system for normal operation.
