Removal

WARNING: Do not breathe dust or use compressed air to blow dust from storage containers or friction components. Remove dust using government-approved techniques. Friction component dust may be a cancer and lung disease hazard. Exposure to potentially hazardous components may occur if dusts are created during repair of friction components, such as brake pads and clutch discs. Exposure may also cause irritation to skin, eyes and respiratory tract, and may cause allergic reactions and/or may lead to other chronic health effects. If irritation persists, seek medical attention or advice. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury.

NOTICE: Do not spill brake fluid on painted or plastic surfaces or damage to the surface may occur. If brake fluid is spilled onto a painted or plastic surface, immediately wash the surface with water.

1. Remove the transmission. For additional information, refer to Manual Transaxle/Transmission Manual Transmission.

2. NOTE: Inspect the clutch housing for fluid leaks. If brake fluid is visible, install a new clutch slave cylinder.

Remove the clutch slave cylinder.

1. Remove the 2 clutch slave cylinder bolts.

2. Remove the clutch slave cylinder.





3. Inspect the clutch slave cylinder for the following:
- Worn or damaged boot.

- Leaking fluid.

- Worn or damaged bearing.

4. Inspect the clutch release bearing as follows:
- Rotate the outer race while applying pressure. If the bearing rotation is rough, install a new clutch slave cylinder.

- Inspect for wear or damage.

Installation

1. NOTE: Apply a thin film of Dow Corning(R) Molykote(R) G-n Metal Assembly Paste to the new clutch slave cylinder bearing face.

Position the clutch slave cylinder to the transmission and install the 2 bolts.

- Tighten to 20 Nm (177 lb-in).





2. NOTE: Before securing the transmission to the engine, connect the hydraulic tube to the clutch slave cylinder.

Install the transmission. For additional information, refer to Manual Transaxle/Transmission Manual Transmission.

3. Refill the clutch reservoir with the specified fluid.

4. Depress and release the clutch pedal 5 full strokes.
