Crankshaft Rear Seal with Retainer Plate: Removal

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING & LIFTING article.
  2. Remove the flywheel or flexplate. For additional information, refer to FLYWHEEL  or FLEXPLATE .
  3. Drain the engine oil.
    • Install the drain plug and tighten to 28 Nm (21 lb-ft).
  4. Remove the oil level indicator and tube. For additional information, refer to OIL LEVEL INDICATOR AND TUBE .
  5. NOTE: If the oil pan is not removed damage to the rear oil seal retainer joint can occur.
  6. Remove the 17 bolts and the oil pan.
  7. Remove the 6 bolts and the crankshaft rear seal with retainer plate.
