Normal Operation

The yaw rate sensor, lateral accelerometer and longitudinal accelerometer are contained in one assembly called the stability control sensor cluster. The sensor cluster measures vehicle yaw rate, lateral and longitudinal acceleration and then sends the information to the ABS module along a secondary Controller Area Network (CAN) bus. This CAN bus is used only for communication between the sensor cluster and the ABS module. The information sent to the ABS module is used to help determine if the AdvanceTrac® system needs to be activated.

Voltage is supplied to the sensor cluster by the ABS module along circuit CCA09 (VT/BN), ground is provided by the ABS module along circuit RCA09 (GN/VT) and the sensor information is transmitted to the ABS module along circuits VCA23 (BU/WH) and VCA24 (GN/OG).

DTC Description Fault Trigger Conditions
  • B2741 - Sensor Cluster Defective
If, during normal operation or the ABS module on-demand self test, the ABS module detects an open or short to ground on circuits CCA09 (VT/BN) or RCA09 (GN/VT) or if the stability sensor cluster is faulted internally, DTC B2741 will set.
  • C1279 - Yaw Rate Sensor Circuit Failure
  • C1281 - Lateral Accelerometer Circuit Failure
If, during normal operation or the ABS module on-demand self test, the ABS module detects an open circuit, a short to voltage or a short to ground on one or both of the secondary CAN bus circuits, the appropriate DTC will be set. Also, a failure of the sensor cluster will cause the appropriate DTC C1279 to set.
  • C1280 - Yaw Rate Sensor Signal Fault
  • C1282 - Lateral Accelerometer Signal Fault
If, during normal operation, the ABS module does not receive the sensor cluster input, or if the input received does not agree with the input from other sensors, the appropriate DTC will be set.
  • C2777 - Sensor Cluster Bus Failure
  • U1901 - CAN Network #2 Communication Bus Fault
If, during normal operation or the ABS module on-demand self test, the ABS module detects an open circuit, a short to voltage or a short to ground on one or both of the secondary CAN bus circuits or the ABS module does not receive any information from the sensor cluster, the appropriate DTC will be set.
  • C2778 - Sensor Cluster Power Supply Failure
If, during normal operation, with vehicle speed greater than 20 km/h (12 mph), the voltage sent to the sensor cluster exceeds 18 volts or drops below 9.7 volts for more than 210 ms, DTC C2778 will be set. Also, if during the on-demand self test the voltage sent to the sensor cluster exceeds 18 volts, DTC C2778 will be set.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
