Pinpoint Test
- VERIFY THE OPERATION OF THE TACHOMETER
- Ignition ON.
- With the engine running, verify the tachometer is operating.
- Does the tachometer operate?
- Yes: GO to 2 on page 2.
- No: REFER to Diagnostic Routine E .
- VERIFY THE OPERATION OF THE DOOR AJAR MESSAGE CENTER WARNING INDICATOR
- Close the hood, decklid/liftgate and all doors.
-
NOTE: If multiple warnings are present, the message center cycles through each of the warnings. Allow the message center to cycle through each display while determining whether the door ajar message center warning indicator is active.
Open the Left Hand (LH) front door and observe the message center.
- Is the door ajar message center warning indicator active?
- Yes:
If the low oil pressure message center warning indicator is never on, GO to 3
on page 2.
If the low oil pressure message center warning indicator is always on, GO to 5 on page 3.
- No: INSTALL a new Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). REFER to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) .
- CHECK FOR A STUCK CLOSED ENGINE OIL PRESSURE SWITCH
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: Engine Oil Pressure (EOP) Switch.
- Start the engine.
- Observe the low oil pressure warning indicator.
- Does the low oil pressure warning indicator illuminate?
- Yes: INSTALL a new Engine Oil Pressure (EOP) switch. REFER to ENGINE OIL PRESSURE (EOP) SWITCH .
- No: GO to 4 on page 2.
- CHECK THE OIL PRESSURE INPUT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: Powertrain Control Module (PCM) C175E.
- Measure:
Courtesy of FORD MOTOR CO.
- Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
- Yes: GO to 10 on page 5.
- No: REPAIR the circuit.
- RETRIEVE THE RECORDED Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) FROM THE Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) SELF-TEST
- Using a scan tool, perform the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) self-test.
- Is Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) U0100:00 recorded?
- Yes: REFER to Diagnostic Routine AR .
- No: GO to 6 on page 3.
- RETRIEVE THE RECORDED Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) FROM THE Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Key ON Engine OFF (KOEO) SELF-TEST
- Using a scan tool, perform the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Key ON Engine OFF (KOEO) self-test.
- Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded?
- Yes: REFER to the appropriate Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) manual INTRODUCTION - GASOLINE MODELS .
- No: GO to 7 on page 3.
- CHECK FOR A STUCK OPEN ENGINE OIL PRESSURE SWITCH
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: Engine Oil Pressure (EOP) Switch.
- Connect a fused jumper wire:
- Start the engine.
- Observe the low oil pressure warning indicator.
- Does the low oil pressure indicator turn off?
- Yes: REMOVE the jumper wire. GO to 9 on page 5.
- No: LEAVE the jumper wire connected. GO to 8 on page 4.
- CHECK THE ENGINE OIL PRESSURE INPUT CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: Powertrain Control Module (PCM) C175E.
- Measure:
Courtesy of FORD MOTOR CO.
- Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?
- Yes: REMOVE the jumper wire. GO to 9 on page 5.
- No: REMOVE the jumper wire. REPAIR the circuit.
- CHECK THE OIL PRESSURE
- Carry out the engine oil pressure test.
- Is the oil pressure within specification (REFER to ENGINE - 3.5L TI - VCT )
- Yes: INSTALL a new Engine Oil Pressure (EOP) switch. REFER to ENGINE OIL PRESSURE (EOP) SWITCH .
- No: REPAIR the low oil pressure concern.
- CHECK FOR CORRECT Powertrain Control Module (PCM) OPERATION
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect and inspect all Powertrain Control Module (PCM) connectors.
- Repair:
- corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
- pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
- Reconnect the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
- Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
- Yes: CHECK On-Line Automotive Service Information System (OASIS) for any applicable Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs). If a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) instructions. If no Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) address this concern, INSTALL a new Powertrain Control Module (PCM). REFER to POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) .
- No: The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
