Pinpoint Test
- RETRIEVE THE RECORDED Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) FROM THE Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Key ON Engine OFF (KOEO) SELF-TEST
- Using a scan tool, perform the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Key ON Engine OFF (KOEO) self-test.
- Are any charging system Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded?
- Yes: REFER to DTC CHART: POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) .
- No: GO to 2 on page 2.
- RETRIEVE THE RECORDED Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) FROM THE Body Control Module (BCM) SELF-TEST
- Using a scan tool, perform the Body Control Module (BCM) self-test.
- Are any charging system Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded?
- Yes: REFER to DTC CHART: BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) .
- No: GO to 3 on page 2.
- CHECK THE CHARGING SYSTEM OPERATION
- Check the charging system operation.
- Does the charging system operate correctly?
- Yes: GO to 4 on page 2.
- No: REFER to SYMPTOM CHART: CHARGING SYSTEM .
- RETRIEVE THE RECORDED Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) FROM THE Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) SELF-TEST
- Using a scan tool, perform the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) self-test.
- Is Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) U0140:00 recorded?
- Yes: REFER to Diagnostic Routine AV .
- No: GO to 5 on page 2.
- CHECK THE MESSAGE CENTER WARNING INDICATOR FUNCTION
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: Powertrain Control Module (PCM) C175B.
- Ignition ON.
- Observe the message center or integrated display area of the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) with the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) connected and disconnected.
NOTE:
If multiple warnings are present, the message center cycles through each of the warning indicators. Allow the message center to cycle through each display while determining whether the charging system message center warning indicator is active.
- Do the powertrain malfunction (wrench) and engine over-temperature warning message center indicators remain off when the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) is connected and become active with the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) disconnected?
- Yes:
If the charging system message center warning indicator is never on, the system is operating correctly at this time.
If the charging system message center warning indicator is always on, INSTALL a new Powertrain Control Module (PCM). REFER to POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) .
- No: INSTALL a new Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). REFER to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) .
