Pinpoint Test
- RETRIEVE THE RECORDED Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) FROM THE Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) SELF-TEST
- Using a scan tool, perform the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) self-test.
- Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded?
- Yes:
If Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) U0100:00 is present, REFER to Diagnostic Routine AR .
If Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P1706:62 is present, GO to 3 on page 2.
- No: GO to 2 on page 2.
- RETRIEVE AND RECORD THE Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) FROM THE Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Key ON Engine OFF (KOEO) SELF-TEST
- Using a scan tool, perform the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Key ON Engine OFF (KOEO) self-test.
- Are any Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded?
- Yes: REFER to the appropriate Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) manual INTRODUCTION - GASOLINE MODELS .
- No: GO to 3 on page 2.
- CHECK THE PARK DETECT INPUT TO THE Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC)
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: Selector Lever.
- Connect a fused jumper wire:
- Ignition ON.
- Monitor the PRNDL indicator with the jumper wire installed and with the jumper wire removed.
- Does the PRNDL display P with the jumper wire connected and blank with the jumper wire removed?
- Yes: REMOVE the jumper wire. INSTALL a new selector lever. REFER to or REFER to SELECTOR LEVER (Select Shift).
- No: REMOVE the jumper wire. GO to 4 on page 3.
- CHECK THE SELECTOR LEVER INPUT CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC).
- Measure:

- Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?
- Yes: GO to 5 on page 3.
- No: REPAIR the circuit.
- CHECK THE SELECTOR LEVER INPUT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Measure:

- Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
- Yes: GO to 6 on page 4.
- No: REPAIR the circuit.
- CHECK FOR CORRECT Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) OPERATION
- Disconnect and inspect the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) connector.
- Repair:
- corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
- pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
- Reconnect the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) connector. Make sure it seats and latches correctly.
- Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
- Yes: CHECK On-Line Automotive Service Information System (OASIS) for any applicable Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs). If a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) instructions. If no Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) address this concern, INSTALL a new Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). REFER to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) .
- No: The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
