Pinpoint Test

  1. RECHECK THE Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs)
    1. Ignition ON.
    2. Using a scan tool, perform the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) self-test.
    3. Clear the Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).
    4. Wait 10 seconds.
    5. Repeat the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) self-test.
    • Is Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) U3003:16 still present? 
    1. Yes:  GO to on page 2.
    2. No:  The system is operating correctly at this time. The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) may have been set due to a previous low battery voltage condition.
  2. CHECK FOR CHARGING SYSTEM Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) IN THE Powertrain Control Module (PCM)
    1. Using a scan tool, perform the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) self-test.
    2. Carry out the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Key ON Engine OFF (KOEO) self-test.
    • Is Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P0620, P0622, P0625, P0626 or P065B set in the Powertrain Control Module (PCM)? 
    1. Yes:  REFER to DTC CHART: POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) .
    2. No:  GO to on page 2.
  3. CHECK THE BATTERY CONDITION AND STATE OF CHARGE
    1. Check the battery condition and verify the battery is fully charged. REFER to Diagnostic Routine A .
    • Is the battery OK and fully charged? 
    1. Yes:  GO to on page 2.
    2. No:  REFER to BATTERY CHARGING .
  4. CHECK THE Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) VOLTAGE Parameter Identification (PID) (MODULE_VOLT)
    1. Ignition ON.
    2. Measure and record the voltage at the battery.
    3. Using a scan tool, view the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Parameter Identifications (PIDs).
    4. Select and monitor the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) voltage Parameter Identification (PID) (MODULE_VOLT).
    • Is the voltage within 0.2 volt of the recorded battery voltage? 
    1. Yes:  GO to  7 on page 4.
    2. No:  GO to on page 2.
  5. CHECK THE Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) VOLTAGE SUPPLY
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Disconnect: Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC).
    3. Ignition ON.
    4. Measure:

    • Is the voltage within 0.2 volt of the recorded battery voltage? 
    1. Yes:  GO to on page 3.
    2. No:  REPAIR the circuit for high resistance. CLEAR the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC).
  6. CHECK THE Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) GROUND CIRCUIT
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Measure:

    • Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 
    1. Yes:  GO to on page 4.
    2. No:  REPAIR the circuit for high resistance. CLEAR the Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).
  7. CHECK FOR CORRECT Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) OPERATION
  1. Disconnect and inspect the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) connector.
  2. Repair:
    • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
    • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
    • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
  3. Reconnect the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) connector. Make sure it seats and latches correctly.
  4. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
  1. Yes:  CHECK On-Line Automotive Service Information System (OASIS) for any applicable Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs). If a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) instructions. If no Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) address this concern, INSTALL a new Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). REFER to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) .
  2. No:  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
