Pinpoint Test
- RETRIEVE THE RECORDED Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) FROM THE Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) SELF-TEST
- Using a scan tool, perform the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) self-test.
- Is Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) U0212:00 recorded?
- Yes: REFER to Diagnostic Routine AZ .
- No: GO to 2 on page 2.
- RETRIEVE THE RECORDED Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) FROM THE Steering Column Control Module (SCCM) SELF-TEST
- Using a scan tool, perform the Steering Column Control Module (SCCM) self-test.
- Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded?
- Yes:
For Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) B137F:09, INSTALL a new Left Hand (LH) steering wheel switch. REFER to STEERING WHEEL SWITCH
.
For Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) B137F:11 or Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) B137F:17, GO to 3 on page 2.
- No: GO to 3 on page 2.
- CHECK THE Steering Column Control Module (SCCM) OUTPUT AT THE Left Hand (LH) STEERING WHEEL SWITCH
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: Left Hand (LH) Steering Wheel Switch.
- Ignition ON.
- Measure:

- Is the voltage approximately 5 volts?
- Yes: INSTALL a new Left Hand (LH) steering wheel switch. REFER to STEERING WHEEL SWITCH .
- No: GO to 4 on page 3.
- CHECK THE MESSAGE CENTER SWITCH SIGNAL CIRCUIT BETWEEN THE Left Hand (LH) STEERING WHEEL SWITCH AND THE UPPER CLOCKSPRING FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Ignition OFF.
- Remove the driver air bag module. REFER to DRIVER AIR BAG MODULE .
- Disconnect: Upper Clockspring C218B.
- Measure:

- Is greater than 10,000 ohms?
- Yes: GO to 5 on page 3.
- No: REPAIR the steering wheel harness message center signal circuit.
- CHECK THE MESSAGE CENTER SWITCH SIGNAL CIRCUIT BETWEEN THE Left Hand (LH) STEERING WHEEL SWITCH AND THE UPPER CLOCKSPRING FOR AN OPEN
- Ignition OFF.
- Measure:

- Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?
- Yes: GO to 6 on page 4.
- No: REPAIR the steering wheel harness message center signal circuit.
- CHECK THE MESSAGE CENTER SWITCH RETURN CIRCUIT BETWEEN THE Left Hand (LH) STEERING WHEEL SWITCH AND THE UPPER CLOCKSPRING FOR AN OPEN
- Measure:

- Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?
- Yes: GO to 7 on page 5.
- No: REPAIR the steering wheel harness message center return circuit.
- CHECK THE MESSAGE CENTER SWITCH SIGNAL CIRCUIT IN THE CLOCKSPRING FOR AN OPEN
- Measure:

- Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?
- Yes: GO to 8 on page 6.
- No: INSTALL a new clockspring. REFER to CLOCKSPRING .
- CHECK THE MESSAGE CENTER SWITCH RETURN CIRCUIT IN THE CLOCKSPRING FOR AN OPEN
- Measure:

- Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?
- Yes: GO to 9 on page 6.
- No: INSTALL a new clockspring. REFER to CLOCKSPRING .
- CHECK FOR CORRECT Steering Column Control Module (SCCM) OPERATION
- Disconnect and inspect all Steering Column Control Module (SCCM) connectors.
- Repair:
- corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
- pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
- Reconnect the Steering Column Control Module (SCCM) connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
- Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
- Yes: CHECK On-Line Automotive Service Information System (OASIS) for any applicable Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs). If a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) instructions. If no Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) address this concern, INSTALL a new Steering Column Control Module (SCCM). REFER to STEERING COLUMN CONTROL MODULE (SCCM) .
- No: The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
