Pinpoint Test

  1. CHECK THE MESSAGE CENTER WARNING INDICATOR FUNCTION
    1. Close all doors, hood and liftgate.
    2. Ignition ON.
    3. NOTE: If multiple warnings are present, the message center cycles through each of the warning indicators. Allow the message center to cycle through each display while determining whether the door ajar message center warning indicator is active.

    Open the driver door while monitoring the door ajar message center warning indicator.

    • Does the driver door ajar message center warning indicator turn off with the driver door closed and illuminate with the driver door open? 
    1. Yes:  If the WASHER FLUID LEVEL LOW message is never on, GO to on page 2.

      If the WASHER FLUID LEVEL LOW message is always on, GO to  5 on page 4.

    2. No:  INSTALL a new Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). REFER to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) .
  2. CHECK THE LOW WASHER FLUID INDICATOR OPERATION
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Disconnect: Washer Fluid Level Switch.
    3. Connect a fused jumper wire:

    4. Ignition ON.
    5. Wait one minute.
    6. Observe the low washer fluid message center indicator.
    • Is the low washer fluid message center indicator on? 
    1. Yes:  REMOVE the jumper wire. GO to on page 3.
    2. No:  REMOVE the jumper wire. GO to  4 on page 3.
  3. CHECK THE WASHER FLUID LEVEL SWITCH GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
    1. Measure:

    • Is the voltage approximately 5 volts or greater? 
    1. Yes:  INSTALL a new washer fluid level switch or reservoir as necessary.
    2. No:  REPAIR the circuit.
  4. CHECK THE WASHER FLUID LEVEL INPUT CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Disconnect: Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC).
    3. Measure:

    • Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 
    1. Yes:  GO to  7 on page 5.
    2. No:  REPAIR the circuit.
  5. CHECK THE WASHER FLUID SWITCH
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Disconnect: Washer Fluid Level Switch.
    3. Ignition ON.
    4. Wait one minute.
    5. Observe the low washer fluid message center indicator.
    • Did the low washer fluid message center indicator turn off? 
    1. Yes:  INSTALL a new washer fluid level switch or reservoir as necessary.
    2. No:  GO to on page 4.
  6. CHECK THE WASHER FLUID INPUT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Disconnect: Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC).
    3. Measure:

    • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? 
    1. Yes:  GO to on page 5.
    2. No:  REPAIR the circuit.
  7. CHECK FOR CORRECT Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) OPERATION
  1. Disconnect and inspect the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) connector.
  2. Repair:
    • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
    • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
    • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
  3. Reconnect the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) connector. Make sure it seats and latches correctly.
  4. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present
  1. Yes:  CHECK On-Line Automotive Service Information System (OASIS) for any applicable Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs). If a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) instructions. If no Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) address this concern, INSTALL a new Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). REFER to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) .
  2. No:  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
