Range Selection: Notes

The PCM receives the range selector position by monitoring 2 independent voltage signals from the Transmission Range (TR) sensor. The TR voltages are then compared to an allowed voltage range for each gear.
Park
With the range selector in PARK:
- the parking pawl locks the output shaft to the case.
- the engine may be started.
- with the key ON, power flows from the high voltage battery through the starter (generator) inside the transmission, to start the engine.
- the ignition key can be removed.
- the ignition switch can be cycled from OFF to START or RUN.
