Removal and Installation

  1. Relieve tension on the parking brake cable system. For additional information, refer to PARKING BRAKE CABLE TENSION RELEASE .
  2. Remove the front door scuff plate. For additional information, refer to Interior Trim - Exploded View in INTERIOR TRIM AND ORNAMENTATION .
  3. Remove the instrument panel steering column opening trim panel and if equipped, the instrument panel lower cover. For additional information, refer to Instrument Panel - Exploded View in INSTRUMENT PANEL AND CONSOLE .
  4. Remove the parking brake release handle bolt.
    • To install, tighten to 3 Nm (27 lb-in).
  5. Remove the retainer and the cowl trim panel. For additional information, refer to Interior Trim - Exploded View in INTERIOR TRIM AND ORNAMENTATION .
  6. Compress the 2 tabs and disconnect the parking brake release cable from the parking brake control assembly.

  7. Disconnect the parking brake release cable from the release lever and remove the parking brake release handle.

  8. Disconnect the parking brake switch electrical connector.
  9. Remove the 3 parking brake control assembly bolts.
    • To install, tighten to 20 Nm (177 lb-in).
  10. Position the parking brake control assembly onto the floor.
  11. Disconnect the parking brake cable from the take-up spool.

  12. Compress the 2 tabs, disconnect the parking brake cable from the control assembly and remove the control assembly.

  13. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
