Pinpoint Test F: The Individual Component Illumination Is Inoperative

NOTE: Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.
  1. F1 CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE SINGLE ILLUMINATION SOURCE
NOTE: If the headlamp switch is the inoperative source, unplug the headlamp switch connector to measure the illumination circuit voltage. Unplugging the connector causes the SJB  to turn the exterior lights on by default for 10 minutes, so it is unnecessary to turn the headlamp switch on.
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: Inoperative Illumination Source.
    • Ignition ON.
    • With the parking lamps on, rotate the instrument panel dimmer switch to the full illumination position.
    • Measure the voltage between the inoperative illumination source, harness side and ground as follows:

    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
    • Yes:  For an Edge/MKX door lock control switch or an MKX passenger window control switch, INSTALL a new switch in question. REFER to Door Lock Control Switch in HANDLES, LOCKS, LATCHES AND ENTRY SYSTEMS or Window Control Switch in GLASS, FRAMES AND MECHANISMS .

For all other components, GO to F2  .

    • No:  REPAIR the voltage supply circuit in question for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.
  2. F2 CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE SINGLE ILLUMINATION SOURCE USING THE CONNECTOR GROUND
    • Measure the voltage between the inoperative illumination source connector, harness side as follows:
