Removal And Installation

  1. Remove the instrument panel steering column cover and reinforcement. For additional information, refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL AND CONSOLE article.
    2. NOTE: Do not service the brake pedal or brake booster without first removing the speed control deactivator switch. This switch must be removed with the brake pedal in the at-rest position. Switch plungers must be compressed for the switch to rotate in the bracket. Attempting to remove the switch when the plunger is extended (during pedal apply) will result in damage to the switch.
  2. Remove the speed control deactivator switch. For additional information, refer to SPEED CONTROL article.
  3. Remove the stoplamp switch. For additional information, refer to EXTERIOR LIGHTING article.
  4. Disconnect the adjustable pedal motor drive cable from the brake pedal and bracket assembly and position it aside.
  5. If equipped with memory feature, disconnect the adjustable pedal potentiometer electrical connector and position it aside.
  6. Disconnect the booster push rod from the brake pedal pin.
  7. Remove the brake pedal bracket bolts.
    • To install, tighten to 30 Nm (22 lb-ft).
  8. Disconnect the stoplamp switch harness from the pedal bracket.
  9. Remove the steering column shaft bolt and disconnect the steering column shaft from the steering column.
    • Discard the bolt.
    • To install, tighten the new bolt to 30 Nm (22 lb-ft).
  10. Remove the 4 brake pedal bracket nuts and brake pedal and bracket.
    • To install, tighten to 28 Nm (21 lb-ft).
    11. NOTE: The brake switch must be positioned with the closed hole away from the brake pedal arm and the open hole toward the brake pedal arm or damage to the switch may occur.
    NOTE: Do not press, pull or otherwise move the brake pedal while installing the speed control deactivator switch. This switch must be installed with the booster push rod attached to the brake pedal and with the brake pedal in the at-rest position. Installing this switch with the brake pedal in any other position will result in incorrect adjustment and may damage the switch.
  11. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
    • Verify correct stoplamp operation.
