Cylinder Head: Disassembly

    NOTE: Only use hand tools when removing or installing the spark plugs, damage may occur to the cylinder head or spark plug.
  1. Remove the spark plugs.
  2. NOTE: Keep the valves, valve springs, retainers and retainer keys in order so they can be installed in their original positions.
  3. Using the Valve Spring Compressor, remove the valve spring retainer keys, the valve spring and the retainer. Remove the valve.
    • Repeat the procedure until all of the valves are removed.

  5. Remove and discard the valve seals.
  6. NOTE: Mark the position of the camshaft bearing caps so they can be installed in their original positions.
  7. Remove the bolts in the sequence shown and remove the camshaft bearing caps.

  9. Remove the camshaft.
