Pinpoint Test M: The Parking, Rear And License Plate Lamps Are Always On

Refer to wiring Diagram Set 92, Parking, Rear and License Lamps for schematic and connector information. Diagrams By Number

Refer to wiring Diagram Set 95, Trailer/Camper Adapter for schematic and connector information. Diagrams By Number

Normal Operation

The parking lamp relay is integrated into, and controlled by, the Smart Junction Box (SJB). When the headlamp switch is placed in the PARKING LAMPS ON position, the headlamp switch routes voltage to the SJB through circuit CLS30 (VT/WH). When the SJB receives the voltage signal from the headlamp switch, the parking lamp relay coil is energized and voltage is routed to the parking lamps through circuit CLS34 (GY), the trailer tow connector through circuit CAT17 (BN/WH) and the instrument panel dimmer switch through circuit CBP01 (BU).

- DTC B2261 (Park Lamp Switch Failure) - an on-demand DTC that sets when the SJB detects a short to voltage from the parking lamps on request input circuit.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- Headlamp switch
- SJB

PINPOINT TEST M: THE PARKING, REAR AND LICENSE PLATE LAMPS ARE ALWAYS ON

NOTICE: Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.

-------------------------------------------------
M1 CHECK THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE SJB SELF-TEST

- Ignition OFF.
- Check the recorded results from the SJB self-test.
- Is DTC B2261 present?

Yes
GO to M2.

No
GO to M4.

-------------------------------------------------
M2 CHECK THE HEADLAMP SWITCH

- Disconnect: Headlamp Switch C205.
- Do the parking lamps continue to illuminate?

Yes
GO to M3.

No
INSTALL a new headlamp switch. REFER to Headlamp Switch Service and Repair. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.

-------------------------------------------------
M3 CHECK CIRCUIT CLS30 (VT/WH) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE

- Disconnect: SJB C2280d.
- Measure the voltage between the headlamp switch C205-5, circuit CLS30 (VT/WH), harness side and ground.

- Is any voltage present?

Yes
REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.

No
GO to M8.

-------------------------------------------------
M4 CHECK CIRCUIT CLS34 (GY) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE (FRONT PARKING LAMPS)

- Disconnect: SJB C2280a.
- Do the front parking lamps continue to illuminate?

Yes
REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
GO to M5.

-------------------------------------------------
M5 CHECK CIRCUIT CLS34 (GY) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE (REAR PARKING LAMPS)

- Disconnect: SJB C2280c.
- Do the rear parking lamps continue to illuminate?

Yes
REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
GO to M6.

-------------------------------------------------
M6 CHECK CIRCUIT CAT17 (BN/WH) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE

- Measure the voltage between the trailer tow C439-3, circuit CAT17 (BN/WH), harness side and ground.

- Is any voltage present?

Yes
REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
GO to M7.

-------------------------------------------------
M7 CHECK CIRCUIT CBP01 (BU) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE

- Disconnect: Instrument Panel Dimmer Switch C2065.
- Measure the voltage between the SJB C2280c-26, circuit CBP01 (BU), harness side and ground.

- Is any voltage present?

Yes
REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
GO to M8.

-------------------------------------------------
M8 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION

- Disconnect all the SJB connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- damaged pins
- pushed-out pins
- Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?

Yes
INSTALL a new SJB. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
