Pinpoint Test G: Binding - Difficult Shift Lever Movement

  1. G1 CHECK TRANSMISSION SHIFTING-ENGINE OFF 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Depress the clutch pedal.
    • Shift the transmission.
    • Does the transmission shift smoothly? 
    1. YES  : VERIFY customer concern. Go to Symptom Chart  if necessary.
    2. NO  : Go to  G2.
  2. G2 CHECK THE TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL 
    • Inspect the fluid level in the transmission.
    • Is the fluid level at the specified level? 
    1. YES  : Go to  G3.
    2. NO  : FILL the transmission to specified level. REFER to MANUAL TRANSAXLE/TRANSMISSION .
  3. G3 CHECK THE TRANSMISSION TOP COVER 
    • Remove the transmission. Refer to MANUAL TRANSAXLE/TRANSMISSION .
    • Remove the transmission top cover.
    • Shift the transmission through all gears.
    • Does the top cover shift smoothly? 
    1. YES  : Go to  G4.
    2. NO  : REPAIR as necessary. REFER to MANUAL TRANSAXLE/TRANSMISSION .
  4. G4 CHECK THE TRANSMISSION INTERNAL COMPONENTS 
    • Visually inspect the internal transmission components for indications of excessive wear or damage.
    • Are there any signs of damage or wear? 
    1. YES  : REPAIR or INSTALL new components as necessary. REFER to MANUAL TRANSAXLE/TRANSMISSION .
    2. NO  : VERIFY customer concern.
