Pinpoint Test A: Clutch Slippage

- A1 INSPECT THE CLUTCH LINKAGE
- Key in OFF position.
- Block the wheels and apply the parking brake.
- Depress and slowly release the clutch pedal.
- Does the clutch pedal release without binding?
- YES : Go to A2.
- NO : INSPECT the clutch pedal. REFER to CLUTCH CONTROLS .
- A2 CHECK THE CLUTCH PEDAL
- Disconnect the master cylinder from the clutch pedal.
- Depress and slowly release the clutch pedal.
- Does the clutch pedal operate without binding?
- YES : Go to A3.
- NO : INSTALL a new clutch pedal. REFER to HYDRAULIC BRAKE ACTUATION .
- A3 CHECK THE HYDRAULIC SYSTEM
- Key in OFF position.
- Depress and release the clutch pedal.
- Open the bleed screw.
- Is there residual hydraulic pressure at the bleed screw?
- YES : INSTALL a new clutch master cylinder. REFER to CLUTCH CONTROLS .
- NO : Go to A4.
- A4 CARRY OUT A STALL TEST
- Key in START position.
- Block the wheels and apply the parking brake.
- Place transmission in 4th gear.
- Increase engine to 2,000 rpm and slowly release the clutch pedal.
- Does the engine stall within 5 seconds?
- YES : The clutch is not slipping. VERIFY customer concern.
- NO : INSPECT the clutch components for damage.
