Pinpoint Test A: Clutch Slippage

  1. A1 INSPECT THE CLUTCH LINKAGE 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Block the wheels and apply the parking brake.
    • Depress and slowly release the clutch pedal.
    • Does the clutch pedal release without binding? 
    1. YES  : Go to  A2.
    2. NO  : INSPECT the clutch pedal. REFER to CLUTCH CONTROLS .
  2. A2 CHECK THE CLUTCH PEDAL 
    • Disconnect the master cylinder from the clutch pedal.
    • Depress and slowly release the clutch pedal.
    • Does the clutch pedal operate without binding? 
    1. YES  : Go to  A3.
    2. NO  : INSTALL a new clutch pedal. REFER to HYDRAULIC BRAKE ACTUATION .
  3. A3 CHECK THE HYDRAULIC SYSTEM 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Depress and release the clutch pedal.
    • Open the bleed screw.
    • Is there residual hydraulic pressure at the bleed screw? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new clutch master cylinder. REFER to CLUTCH CONTROLS .
    2. NO  : Go to  A4.
  4. A4 CARRY OUT A STALL TEST 
    • Key in START position.
    • Block the wheels and apply the parking brake.
    • Place transmission in 4th gear.
    • Increase engine to 2,000 rpm and slowly release the clutch pedal.
    • Does the engine stall within 5 seconds? 
    1. YES  : The clutch is not slipping. VERIFY customer concern.
    2. NO  : INSPECT the clutch components for damage.
