Brake Booster: Aspirator

The aspirator increases the vacuum level in the power brake booster during adverse driving conditions, when the engine temporarily may not produce the minimum required vacuum level. The aspirator uses filtered air, drawn through the air cleaner tube and across an orifice, to provide additional vacuum to the brake booster.
Some examples of driving conditions in which brake booster vacuum may be low are:
- operation of the vehicle at high altitudes, where a low vacuum level condition can naturally occur.
- operation of the vehicle at high altitudes while making a quick series of repeated stops, which may deplete booster vacuum.
- operation of the vehicle during cold start.
The following engine configurations will have an aspirator:
- 2.3L engine with automatic transmission.
- 3.0L engine with manual or automatic transmission.
