Normal Operation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2007 Ford Ranger. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The odometer is controlled by a rolling count signal sent from the powertrain control module (PCM) to the instrument cluster over the high speed controller area network (CAN) bus lines. The instrument cluster interprets the signal sent from the PCM and displays the current mileage on the odometer liquid crystal display (LCD).

DTC B2143 - sets if the instrument cluster detects a nonvolatile memory failure during its self-test sequence.

DTC U0294 - sets if the instrument cluster fails to receive the odometer rolling count data from the PCM and the odometer displays ------.
