Pinpoint Test Aa: The Instrument Cluster Is Inoperative

CAUTION:
Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.
- AA1 CHECK THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FOR VOLTAGE
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Instrument Cluster C220b
- Key in ON position.
- Measure the voltage between the instrument cluster C220b, harness side and ground as follows:
Connector-Pin Circuit C220b-8 CBP10 (YE/OG) C220b-10 SBP33 (RD) C220b-12 CBP09 (VT/GY) - Are the voltages greater than 10 volts?
- YES : Go to AA2.
- NO : VERIFY the SJB fuses 9 (5A), 10 (10A), and 33 (5A) are OK. If OK, REPAIR the circuit in question. TEST the system for normal operation.
- AA2 CHECK CIRCUITS GD161 (BK/YE) AND GD174 (BK/WH) FOR AN OPEN
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Instrument Cluster C220a
- Measure the resistance between the instrument cluster, harness side and ground as follows:
Connector-Pin Circuit C220a-1 GD161 (BK/YE) C220b-3 GD174 (BK/WH) - Are the resistances less than 5 ohms?
- YES : Go to AA3.
- NO : REPAIR the circuit in question. TEST the system for normal operation.
- AA3 CHECK FOR CORRECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OPERATION
- Disconnect all the instrument cluster connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- damaged pins
- pushed-out pins
- Connect all the instrument cluster connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
- YES : INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) . TEST the system for normal operation.
- NO : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
