Inspection and Verification: Notes

- Verify the customer concern.
- Visually inspect the following for obvious signs of mechanical or electrical damage.VISUAL INSPECTION CHART
Mechanical Electrical - Engine oil level
- Door adjustment
- Engine coolant level
- Fuel tank
- Fuel evaporative system
- Brake fluid level
- Accessory drive belt
- Battery junction box (BJB) fuse(s):
- 3 (50A)
- 9 (40A)
- Smart junction box (SJB) fuse(s):
- 9 (5A)
- 10 (10A)
- 33 (5A)
- Bulbs
- Circuitry
- Instrument cluster
- If an obvious cause for an observed concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.
- If the cause is not visually evident, connect the scan tool to the data link connector (DLC).
- If the scan tool does not communicate with the VCM:
- Check the VCM connection to the vehicle.
- Check the scan tool connection to the VCM.
- Refer to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK , No Power To The Scan Tool, to diagnose no communication with the scan tool.
- If the scan tool does not communicate with the vehicle:
- Verify the ignition key is in the ON position.
- Verify the scan tool operation with a known good vehicle.
- Refer to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK to diagnose no response from the powertrain control module (PCM).
- Carry out the network test:
- If the scan tool responds with no communication for one or more modules, refer to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK .
- If the network test passes, retrieve and record the continuous memory DTCs.
- Clear the continuous DTCs and carry out the self-test diagnostics for the instrument cluster.
- If the DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to the Instrument Cluster Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index. For all other DTCs, refer to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES .
- If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, go to Symptom Chart .INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) INDEX
DTC Description Action B1202 Fuel Sender Circuit Open Go to Pinpoint Test A . B1204 Fuel Sender Circuit Short to Ground Go to Pinpoint Test A . B1317 Battery Voltage High REFER to CHARGING SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION to continue diagnosis of the charging system. B1318 Battery Voltage Low Go to Pinpoint Test G . B1342 ECU is Faulted CLEAR all DTCs. REPEAT the instrument cluster self-test. If DTC B1342 is still present, INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) . TEST the system for normal operation. B1363 Ignition Start Circuit Failure Go to Pinpoint Test AB . B2143 NVM Memory Failure Go to Pinpoint Test D . B2207 ECU ROM Checksum CLEAR all DTCs. REPEAT the instrument cluster self-test. If the DTC B2207 is still present, INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) . TEST the system for normal operation. B2477 Module Configuration Failure RE-CONFIGURE the instrument cluster. REFER to MODULE CONFIGURATION . B2675 Trip Reset Button Stuck VERIFY that there is no interference between the instrument cluster lens or mask and the trip reset button. If OK, INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) . TEST the system for normal operation. C1221 ABS Warning Lamp Output Circuit Short to Ground Go to Pinpoint Test J . C1226 Brake Warning Lamp Output Circuit Short to Ground Go to Pinpoint Test H . C2784 RAM Checksum Failure CLEAR all DTCs. REPEAT the instrument cluster self-test. If DTC C2784 is still present, INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) . TEST the system for normal operation. U0102 Lost Communication With the Transfer Case Control Module Go to Pinpoint Test T . U0140 Lost Communication With The Body Control Module (GEM) MONITOR the instrument cluster indicators and warning indicators for correct operation. If any indicators or warning indicators do not function correctly, go to Symptom Chart .
If all indicators are functioning correctly, CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. If DTC U0140 returns, INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES .U0151 Lost Communication With The Restraints Control Module (RCM) Go to Pinpoint Test U . U0294 Lost Communication With the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) MONITOR the instrument cluster gauges, indicators and warning indicators for correct operation. If any gauges, indicators or warning indicators do not function correctly, go to Symptom Chart .
If all indicators are functioning correctly, CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. If DTC U0294 returns, INSTALL a new PCM. REFER to ELECTRONIC ENGINE CONTROLS .U2023 Fault Received From External Node Go to Pinpoint Test Z . U2050 No Application Present REFLASH the instrument cluster. If the DTC occurs after a software reflash, REFLASH the instrument cluster again.
If the DTC is present after each attempt to reflash, INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) . TEST the system for normal operation.U2472 Unexpected Ignition State CLEAR all DTCs. REPEAT the instrument cluster self-test. If DTC U2472 is still present, INSTALL a new smart junction box (SJB). REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES . TEST the system for normal operation.

Make sure to use the latest scan tool software release.
NOTE:
The vehicle communication module (VCM) LED prove-out confirms power and ground from the DLC are provided to the VCM.
