Inspection and Verification
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2007 Ford Ranger. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Verify the customer concern.
- Visually inspect the following for obvious signs of electrical damage.VISUAL INSPECTION CHART
Electrical - Battery junction box (BJB) fuse 1 (40A)
- Smart junction box (SJB) fuse 11 (10A)
- Circuitry
- If an obvious cause of an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.
- If the cause is not visually evident, connect the scan tool to the data link connector (DLC).
- If the scan tool does not communicate with the VCM:
- Check the VCM connection to the vehicle.
- Check the scan tool connection to the VCM.
- Refer to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article, No Power To The Scan Tool, to diagnose no communication with the scan tool.
- If the scan tool does not communicate with the vehicle:
- Verify the ignition key is in the ON position.
- Verify the scan tool operation with a known good vehicle.
- Refer to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article to diagnose no response from the powertrain control module (PCM).
- Carry out the network test:
- If the scan tool responds with no communication for one or more modules, refer to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article.
- If the network test passes, retrieve and record the continuous memory diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).
- Clear the continuous DTCs and carry out the self-test diagnostics for the SJB.
- If the DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to the Smart Junction Box (SJB) Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index. For all other DTCs, refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Chart in this article.
- If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, go to Symptom Chart .SMART JUNCTION BOX (SJB) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) INDEX
DTC Description Action B106E Solid State Driver Disabled Due to Short Circuit Go to Pinpoint Test A . B106F Module Disabled Due to External Fault Go to Pinpoint Test A . B2477 Module Configuration Failure CONFIGURE the SJB. REFER to MODULE CONFIGURATION article. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT self-test. If DTC B2477 is retrieved again, INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to Smart Junction Box (SJB) in this article. TEST the system for normal operation. U0100 Lost Communication With ECM/PCM CLEAR the DTCs. CYCLE the key and wait for 10 seconds. REPEAT the self-test. If DTC U0100 is retrieved again, INSTALL a new PCM. REFER to ELECTRONIC ENGINE CONTROLS article. TEST the system for normal operation. U0155 Lost Communication With Instrument Panel Cluster (IC) Control Module CLEAR the DTCs. CYCLE the key and wait for 10 seconds. REPEAT self-test. If DTC U0155 is retrieved again, INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER article. TEST the system for normal operation. U2050 No Application Present CONFIGURE the SJB. REFER to MODULE CONFIGURATION article. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT self-test. If DTC U2050 is retrieved again, INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to Smart Junction Box (SJB) in this article. TEST the system for normal operation. All other DTCs - REFER to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Chart in this article.
NOTE:
Make sure to use the latest scan tool software release.
NOTE:
The vehicle communication module (VCM) prove-out confirms power and ground from the DLC are provided to the VCM.
