Removal And Installation

WARNING: Do not smoke or carry lighted tobacco or open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel-related component. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and may be ignited. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
WARNING: Fuel in the fuel system remains under high pressure even when the engine is not running. Before repairing or disconnecting any of the fuel lines or fuel system components, the fuel system pressure must be relieved to prevent accidental spraying of fuel, causing a fire hazard. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
  1. With vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING AND LIFTING article.
  2. Release the fuel system pressure. For additional information, refer to FUEL SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION article.
  3. Drain the fuel tank. For additional information, refer to FUEL SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION article.
  4. Loosen the main fuel tank filler pipe hose clamp on the fuel tank. Remove the fuel tank filler pipe hose from the fuel tank.

    • To install, tighten to 3 Nm (27 lb-in).
  5. Remove the fuel tank support straps. For additional information, refer to Fuel Tank Support Straps  in this article.
  6. Partially lower the fuel tank for ease of access.
  7. Disconnect the fuel pump electrical connector.
  8. Disconnect the fuel tank filler pipe vent tube-to-fuel pump quick connect coupling. For additional information, refer to FUEL SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION article.
  9. Disconnect the fuel supply tube-to-fuel pump quick connect coupling and the fuel return tube-to-fuel pump quick connect coupling. For additional information, refer to FUEL SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION article.
  10. Disconnect the rear fuel tank vapor tube and fuel tank pressure sensor assembly-to-fuel pump quick connect coupling. For additional information, refer to FUEL SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION article.
  11. Disconnect the rear fuel tank vapor tube and fuel tank pressure sensor assembly-to-fuel tank vent valve quick connect coupling at the rear of the fuel tank. For additional information, refer to FUEL SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION article.
  12. Lower the fuel tank.
  13. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
