Output Shaft and Bearing: Disassembly

  1. Remove the following components:

    • The bearing outer snap ring.
    • The 3rd/4th synchronizer spacer.
    • The thrust bearing.
  2. NOTE: Press off 3rd/4th synchronizer, if stuck.

  3. Remove the following components:
    • The 3rd/4th synchronizer.
    • The 3rd gear blocking ring.
    • The 3rd gear.
    • The 3rd gear needle bearing.
  4. CAUTION: Make sure that the output shaft flange does not contact or ride up onto the press cradle. Incorrect positioning can result in component damage.

  5. Position the output shaft in a press. Press off the output shaft center bearing, the 1st gear, the 1st/2nd synchronizer assembly and the 2nd gear.
