Removal And Installation

  1. Turn the steering wheel to the straight-ahead position and turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  2. Remove the driver air bag module. For additional information, refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.
  3. Loosen the steering wheel bolt.
    • To install, tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).
  4. CAUTION: Removing the steering wheel without using a puller can damage the column bearings.

  5. Using the special tool, remove the steering wheel.
  6. Remove and discard the steering wheel bolt.
  7. Remove the steering wheel.
    • Route the wires from the clockspring through the steering wheel.
  8. NOTE: A new steering wheel bolt must be installed.
  9. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
