Removal And Installation

- Turn the steering wheel to the straight-ahead position and turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
- Remove the driver air bag module. For additional information, refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.
- Loosen the steering wheel bolt.
- To install, tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).
- Using the special tool, remove the steering wheel.
- Remove and discard the steering wheel bolt.
- Remove the steering wheel.
- Route the wires from the clockspring through the steering wheel.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.
CAUTION:
Removing the steering wheel without using a puller can damage the column bearings.
NOTE:
A new steering wheel bolt must be installed.
