Extension Housing Seal and Bushing: Removal

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING AND LIFTING .

    NOTE: To maintain initial driveshaft balance, mark the rear driveshaft yoke and axle flange so they can be installed in their original alignment.
  3. Mark the rear driveshaft.

  5. Remove the 4 rear driveshaft bolts.

    NOTE: Do not use a hammer.
  7. Remove the rear driveshaft from the flange using a pry bar.

  9. Using the special tools, remove the extension housing seal.

    CAUTION: Use the extension housing bushing remover carefully so that the seal area is not damaged.
  11. Using the special tool, remove the extension housing bushing.
