Front Brake and Coast Clutch Drum Assembly: Disassembly

- Remove the coast clutch pressure plate.
- Remove the coast clutch retaining ring.
- Remove the coast clutch pressure plate.
- Remove the coast clutch disc pack.
- Inspect for wear, install new as necessary.
- Using the special tool, remove the coast clutch piston retaining ring.
- Relieve the direct clutch spring tension and remove the special tool.
- Remove the coast clutch piston springs.
- Remove the coast clutch piston spring retainer.
- Remove the 20 clutch piston springs.
- Remove the coast clutch piston.
- Apply air pressure to the hole in the drum to remove coast clutch piston while blocking other hole with finger.
- Remove the coast clutch piston inner seal and the coast clutch piston outer seal.
NOTE:
This is a select fit ring. See assembly procedure if installation of a new ring or clutch plate is required.
NOTE:
Coast clutch friction plates are directional. Note direction of grooves for installation.
WARNING:
While removing or installing the retaining ring, slowly release tool pressure on clutch piston springs. Failure to follow this instruction may cause the assembly to separate forcefully, resulting in serious personal injury.
CAUTION:
Do not fully compress the special tool or damage to the spring retainer can occur.
WARNING:
When using compressed air, never let air pressure exceed 138 kPa (20 psi) and always wear safety glasses. Compressed air may cause foreign material or parts to become airborne. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury.
