Crankshaft Main Bearing Journal Taper and Out-of-Round

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2007 Ford Ranger. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Measure each of the crankshaft main bearing journal diameters in 2 directions perpendicular to one another at each end of the main bearing journal. The difference in the measurements from one end to the other is the taper. The difference in the measurements of the 2 perpendicular directions is the out-of-round. Verify measurements are within the wear limit.
