Exhaust Y-Pipe - 3.0L, 4.0L: Removal

CAUTION: Do not use oil or grease-based lubricants on the isolators. These lubricants may cause deterioration of the rubber. This can lead to separation of the isolator from the exhaust hanger bracket during vehicle operation.
  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING AND LIFTING article.
  2. Disconnect the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) and catalyst monitor sensor electrical connectors.
  3. Remove the RH side of the exhaust Y-pipe assembly-to-muffler and tailpipe assembly bolts, flag nuts and gasket.
  4. Remove the transmission mount and isolator-to-transmission bolt.

  5. Remove the LH side of the exhaust Y-pipe-to-RH side of the exhaust Y-pipe nuts.
  6. Using a suitable jack, support the RH side of the exhaust Y-pipe.
  7. NOTE: 3.0L shown, 4.0L similar.
    NOTE: Do not remove the RH side of the exhaust Y-pipe-to-exhaust manifold nuts.

  8. Loosen the RH side of the exhaust Y-pipe-to-exhaust manifold nuts.
  9. Using a suitable jack, support the LH side of the exhaust Y-pipe.
  10. NOTE: 3.0L shown, 4.0L similar.

  11. Remove the LH side of the exhaust Y-pipe-to-exhaust manifold nuts.
  12. Remove the LH side of the exhaust Y-pipe.
  13. Remove the LH side of the exhaust Y-pipe-to-RH side of the exhaust Y-pipe gasket.
  14. NOTE: 3.0L shown, 4.0L similar.

  15. Remove the RH side of the exhaust Y-pipe-to-exhaust Y-pipe nuts and remove the RH side of the exhaust Y-pipe.
