Exhaust Downpipe - 2.3L: Installation

CAUTION: Do not tighten the exhaust system fasteners until all components are assembled and aligned, making sure to tighten all fasteners beginning at the front of the vehicle. For additional information, refer to Exhaust System Alignment  in this article.
NOTE: Clean the mating surface of the exhaust manifold outlet flare and the exhaust downpipe inlet flare. Make sure not to damage the exhaust manifold outlet flare or the studs.
NOTE: Clean the mating surface of the exhaust downpipe and the muffler and tailpipe. Make sure not to damage the exhaust downpipe and muffler and tailpipe mating surfaces.
    NOTE: Make sure to apply anti-seize lubricant to the threads of the sensors before installation.
  1. If removed, install the HO2S and catalyst monitor sensor.
    • Tighten to 41 Nm (30 lb-ft).
  2. NOTE: Use caution when installing the exhaust downpipe. Make sure not to damage the exhaust manifold outlet flare, the exhaust downpipe inlet flare, the exhaust downpipe and muffler and tailpipe mating surfaces or the exhaust manifold studs.

  3. Position the exhaust downpipe into the vehicle and install the transmission mount and isolator-to-transmission bolt.
    • Tighten to 90 Nm (66 lb-ft).
  4. Loosely install the exhaust manifold-to-exhaust downpipe nuts.

  5. Loosely install the exhaust downpipe-to-muffler and tailpipe assembly nuts.
  6. Align the exhaust system. For additional information, refer to Exhaust System Alignment  in this article.
  7. Connect the HO2S and catalyst monitor sensor electrical connectors.
