Wheel Studs: Installation

CAUTION: Never use air tools to install wheel studs. The serrations can be stripped from the stud.
  1. Insert a new wheel stud in the axle flange, making sure the serrations are aligned with those made by the original wheel stud.
  2. Seat the new wheel stud in the axle flange.

    • Place 4 flat washers over the outside end of the wheel stud.
    • Thread a standard lug nut with the flat side against the washers.
    • Tighten the wheel nut until the wheel stud head seats against the back side of the flange.
  3. Remove the wheel nut and flat washers.
  4. Install the rear brake drum. For additional information, refer to DRUM BRAKE article.
