Removal And Installation

- Detach the accelerator cable from the throttle body (TB) and the accelerator cable bracket.
- Detach the exhaust manifold-to-EGR valve tube from the EGR valve.
- To install, tighten to 34 Nm (25 lb-ft).
- Disconnect the evaporative emission (EVAP) purge valve-to-intake manifold tube from the intake manifold.
- Detach the EVAP purge valve-to-intake manifold tube retainer.
- Disconnect the differential pressure feedback EGR sensor electrical connector.
- Detach the wiring harness retainer from the differential pressure feedback EGR sensor.
- Remove the differential pressure feedback EGR sensor.
- Disconnect the camshaft position (CMP) sensor electrical connector.
- Disconnect the EGR vacuum regulator solenoid electrical connector.
- Disconnect the EGR vacuum regulator solenoid vacuum connector.
- Remove the bolts and the EGR vacuum regulator solenoid.
- To install, tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
- Disconnect the wiring harness electrical connectors.
- Remove the bolt and position the wiring harness connectors and bracket aside.
- To install, tighten to 6 Nm (53 lb-in).
- Disconnect the LH spark plug wires from the ignition coil.
- Detach the LH spark plug wire retainer from the ignition coil bracket.
- Detach the LH spark plug wire retainer from the valve cover stud bolt.
- Disconnect the ignition coil electrical connector.
- Detach the wiring harness retainer from the ignition coil bracket.
- Disconnect the radio interference capacitor electrical connector.
- Detach the accelerator cable bracket from the ignition coil.
- Remove the 4 bolts and position the ignition coil and bracket aside.
- To install, tighten the lower rear bolt to 28 Nm (21 lb-ft).
- To install, tighten the lower front bolt to 23 Nm (17 lb-ft).
- To install, tighten the 2 upper bolts to 8 Nm (71 lb-in).
- Disconnect the PCV hose from the PCV valve.
- Disconnect the PCV valve electrical connector.
- Disconnect the 3 LH fuel injector electrical connectors.
- Detach the wiring harness retainer from the LH valve cover stud bolt.
- Loosen the bolts and remove the LH valve cover.
- To install, tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
- Clean the sealing surfaces and inspect the LH valve cover gasket. Install a new gasket if necessary.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.
CAUTION:
It is important to twist the spark plug wire boots while pulling upward to avoid possible damage to the spark plug wire.
NOTE:
Spark plug wires must be connected to the correct ignition coil terminal. Mark the spark plug wire locations before removing them.
CAUTION:
Do not use metal scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive discs or other abrasive means to clean the sealing surfaces. These tools cause scratches and gouges which make leak paths.
