Cylinder Head: Disassembly

  1. Remove the spark plugs.
  2. NOTE: Mark each hydraulic lash adjuster to make sure it is installed in its original position.

  3. Remove the hydraulic lash adjusters.
  4. NOTE: Keep the valves, valve springs, retainers and retainer keys in order so they can be installed in their original positions.

  5. Using the special tool, remove the valve spring retainer keys, the valve spring and the retainer. Remove the valve.
    • Repeat the procedure until all of the valves are removed.
  6. Remove and discard the valve seals.
  7. NOTE: Mark the position of the camshaft bearing caps so they can be installed in their original positions.

  8. Remove the bolts in the sequence shown and remove the camshaft bearing caps.
  9. Remove the camshaft.
