Oil Pan - Four Wheel Drive (4WD): Removal

- Remove the flywheel or flexplate. For additional information, refer to Flywheel or Flexplate in this article.
- Remove and discard the bolts and straps. Secure the driveshaft aside.
- Drain the engine oil.
- Secure the front axle housing to a suitable jack.
- Remove the 3 axle housing mounting bolts and lower the axle housing approximately 2 inches.
- Remove the oil pan bolts and the oil pan.
- Discard the oil pan gasket.
CAUTION:
Tape the U-joint bearing caps to prevent them from falling off the U-joints.
CAUTION:
Index-mark the front axle pinion flange to the front driveshaft.
