Oil Pan - Four Wheel Drive (4WD): Removal

  1. Remove the flywheel or flexplate. For additional information, refer to Flywheel  or Flexplate  in this article.
  2. CAUTION: Tape the U-joint bearing caps to prevent them from falling off the U-joints.
    CAUTION: Index-mark the front axle pinion flange to the front driveshaft.

  3. Remove and discard the bolts and straps. Secure the driveshaft aside.
  4. Drain the engine oil.
  5. Secure the front axle housing to a suitable jack.

  6. NOTE: Only 2 bolts shown.

  7. Remove the 3 axle housing mounting bolts and lower the axle housing approximately 2 inches.
  8. Remove the oil pan bolts and the oil pan.
    • Discard the oil pan gasket.
