In-Vehicle Servicing: Camshaft: Removal

  1. Remove the radiator assembly. For additional information, refer to ENGINE COOLING article.
  2. Remove the hydraulic lash adjusters. For additional information, refer to Hydraulic Lash Adjuster  in this article.
  3. Remove the timing chain. For additional information, refer to Timing Chain  in this article.
  4. Remove the camshaft synchronizer assembly. For additional information, refer to ELECTRONIC ENGINE CONTROLS article.
  5. Remove the bolts and the camshaft thrust plate.

  6. CAUTION: Damage to the camshaft and/or the camshaft bearings can occur if the camshaft is allowed to drop on the bearing surface or cylinder block.

  7. Remove the camshaft.
