Disassembly And Assembly Of Subassemblies: Piston: Disassembly

    CAUTION: Use a suitable ring expander to remove piston rings to prevent damage.
  1. Remove the piston rings one at a time, starting with the top compression ring and finishing with the lower oil control ring.
    • Discard the piston rings.
  2. NOTE: Take note of piston connecting rod assembly and index-mark the connecting rod and the piston to make sure of correct orientation during reassembly.

  3. Using the special tool, press the piston pin out of the piston connecting rod assembly.
  4. Remove the connecting rod from the piston.
  5. Clean and inspect the connecting rod and the piston. For additional information, refer to ENGINE SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION article.
