Disassembly And Assembly Of Subassemblies: Piston: Disassembly

- Remove the piston rings one at a time, starting with the top compression ring and finishing with the lower oil control ring.
- Discard the piston rings.
- Using the special tool, press the piston pin out of the piston connecting rod assembly.
- Remove the connecting rod from the piston.
- Clean and inspect the connecting rod and the piston. For additional information, refer to ENGINE SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION article.
CAUTION:
Use a suitable ring expander to remove piston rings to prevent damage.
NOTE:
Take note of piston connecting rod assembly and index-mark the connecting rod and the piston to make sure of correct orientation during reassembly.
