  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING AND LIFTING article.
  2. Relieve the fuel pressure. For additional information, refer to FUEL SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION article.
  3. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES article.
  4. Recover the A/C system. For additional information, refer to CLIMATE CONTROL SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION AND DIAGNOSTICS article.
  5. Drain the engine cooling system. For additional information, refer to ENGINE COOLING article.
  6. Drain the engine oil.
  7. Remove the hood.
  8. Remove the air cleaner outlet tube. For additional information, refer to INTAKE AIR DISTRIBUTION AND FILTERING article.
  9. Remove the upper radiator hose.

  10. Remove the lower radiator hose.

  11. Remove the fan and shroud. For additional information, refer to ENGINE COOLING article.
  12. Disconnect the 3 PCM electrical connectors. Remove the retaining nut on the harness clamp. Position the harness on the engine.

  13. Remove the stud bolt and the ground cable.

  14. Remove the heater hose assembly.

    • Disconnect the heater hoses at the bulkhead.
    • Disconnect the vacuum hose.
    • Disconnect the heater hoses at the engine and remove the assembly.
  15. Disconnect the vacuum reservoir tube connection.

  16. Disconnect the engine-to-degas bottle coolant bypass hose.

  17. Disconnect the degas bottle-to-engine coolant supply hose.

  18. Disconnect the A/C compressor electrical connector.

  19. Disconnect the mass air flow sensor (MAF) electrical connector.

  20. Disconnect the A/C compressor manifold. Plug the lines and the compressor ports.

  21. Disconnect the accelerator cable and, if equipped, the speed control cable from the throttle body (TB) and the cable mounting bracket and position aside.

  22. Disconnect and position aside the power steering pressure (PSP) switch electrical connector and the high-pressure power steering tube.

  23. Disconnect the fuel supply tube spring lock coupling. For additional information, refer to FUEL SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION article.

  25. Detach the fuel supply tube, disconnect the electrical connectors and disconnect the evaporative purge tube quick connect coupling. For additional information, refer to FUEL SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION article.
  26. Disconnect the brake booster vacuum hose and the engine ground strap.

  27. Disconnect the positive battery cable, the negative battery cable and the solenoid control wire at the starter.

  28. Remove the starter wiring harness support bracket bolt and position the wiring harness aside.

  29. Position the RH splash shield aside.

  30. Disconnect the generator electrical connections.

  31. Detach generator wiring pin-type retainer.

  32. If equipped, disconnect the block heater electrical connector.

  33. Disconnect the front heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) electrical connector at the transmission bell housing.

  1. Remove the bolt and the transmission dust shield.

  2. Remove the 2 exhaust manifold-to-front pipe nuts.

  3. Disconnect the engine wiring harness anchor and the pin-type retainer and position the wiring harness aside.

  4. Disconnect the engine oil pressure (EOP) sensor electrical connector.

  5. Remove and discard the engine oil filter.

  6. Detach the wiring harness from the crossmember and disconnect the electrical connector. Route the wiring harness to the transmission.

  1. Route the transmission portion of the wiring harness to the engine.
  2. Remove the 4 bolts and the oil filter adapter.

  3. Remove the bolt, the 2 stud bolts and the starter.

  4. Remove the starter dust shield.

    NOTE: Leave the 2 side bolts in until the engine is ready to be removed.

  1. Remove 9 of the transmission-to-engine bolts.


  1. Install the engine lifting bracket.

  2. Support the transmission with a floor jack.
  3. Support the engine with the Floor Crane, using the Spreader Bar.

  4. Remove the 2 side transmission-to-engine bolts.
  5. NOTE: Left side shown, right side similar.

  6. Remove the 4 engine support insulator nuts.
  7. Remove the engine from the vehicle.
