Oil Pan: Removal

- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING AND LIFTING article.
- Remove the engine cooling fan. For additional information, refer to ENGINE COOLING article.
- Remove the oil level indicator and tube. For additional information, refer to Oil Level Indicator and Tube in this article.
- Remove the LH engine support insulator-to-engine bracket nuts.
- Install the special tool.
- Install the special tool and raise the LH side of the engine approximately 25 mm (1 in).
- Remove the drain plug and drain the engine oil. Install the drain plug when finished.
- Tighten to 28 Nm (21 lb-ft).
- Detach the wiring harness retainers from the engine front cover.
- Remove the 4 engine front cover-to-oil pan bolts.
- Remove the transmission bracket-to-transmission bolts.
- Remove the 4 transmission-to-oil pan bolts.
- Loosen the 7 transmission-to-cylinder block bolts 5 mm (0.19 in).
- Slide the transmission rearward 5 mm (0.19 in).
- Remove the 13 oil pan bolts and the oil pan.
- Clean the sealing surface with silicone gasket remover and metal surface prep. Observe all warnings and cautions and follow all application directions contained on the packaging of the silicone gasket remover and metal surface prep.
NOTE:
Only the LH side of the engine will be raised.
CAUTION:
To prevent damage to the transmission, do not loosen the transmission-to-engine bolts more than 5 mm (0.19 in).
NOTE:
If necessary, lift the rear of the transmission to remove the oil pan.
CAUTION:
Do not use metal scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive discs or other abrasive means to clean the sealing surfaces. These tools cause scratches and gouges, which make leak paths. Use a plastic scraping tool to remove all traces of old sealant.
