Cylinder Head: Disassembly

- Remove the bolts and the engine lifting eyes.
- Remove the cylinder head temperature (CHT) sensor.
- Remove the 4 bolts and the coolant outlet pipe.
- Discard the gasket.
- Remove the 2 bolts and the EGR valve.
- Discard the EGR valve gasket.
- Remove and discard the 4 spark plugs.
- Remove the 16 valve tappets.
- Using the special tools, compress the valve spring and remove the valve spring retainer keys, the valve spring retainers and the valve springs.

- Remove the special tools.
- Inspect the valve spring, valve spring retainer and valve spring retainer key. For additional information, refer to ENGINE SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION article. Install new parts as necessary.
- Remove the valves.
- Using the special tools, remove and discard the valve stem seals.
- Inspect the valves. For additional information, refer to ENGINE SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION article. Install new parts as necessary.

Note location of the tappets prior to removal.

Note the location of the valves if they are to be reused.

Mark each valve if the original valves are to be used.
