Removal And Installation

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING AND LIFTING article.
  2. Remove the dust cap.

  4. Remove and discard the wheel end nut.
    • To install, tighten to 27 Nm (20 lb-ft).

  6. Remove the vacuum and vent line at the vacuum and vent port of the integrated wheel end.

  8. Remove the 3 integrated wheel end bolts.
    • To install, tighten to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft).

  10. Remove the tie-rod nut and separate the tie rod from the knuckle.
    • Discard the tie-rod nut.
    • To install, tighten to 150 Nm (111 lb-ft).

  12. Remove the upper ball joint nut and separate the upper ball joint from the knuckle.
    • Discard the upper ball joint nut.
    • To install, tighten to 150 Nm (111 lb-ft).

    CAUTION: Do not damage the hub seal.
    NOTE: Allow the steering knuckle to swing outward while keeping the halfshaft pushed inward.
  14. Once clearance is available, remove the halfshaft outboard end and integrated wheel end from the hub bearing.

  16. Remove the integrated wheel end from the halfshaft outboard end.

  18. Remove the 6 halfshaft flange-to-axle shaft flange bolts.
    • To install, tighten to 82 Nm (60 lb-ft).

    CAUTION: Do not damage the hub seal.
  20. Separate the halfshaft from the axle and remove the halfshaft from the vehicle.

    CAUTION: Do not install the integrated wheel end in the knuckle. It must be installed on the outer constant velocity joint housing.
    CAUTION: Do not dislodge the integrated wheel end seal spring when installing the integrated wheel end on the outer constant velocity joint housing.
    NOTE: Compress the integrated wheel end and install a vacuum cap on the vacuum port.
  22. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
    • Install the following new fasteners:
      • Wheel end nut
      • Tie-rod nut
      • Upper ball joint nut
