Inspection and Verification

  1. Verify the customer concern.
  2. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical and electrical damage.
    VISUAL INSPECTION CHART

    Mechanical Electrical
    • Switch(es)
    • Seat tracks obstructed or damaged
    • Driver power seat fuse:
      • Central junction box (CJB) fuse 109 (30A)
    • Passenger power seat fuse:
      • CJB fuse 108 (30A)
    • Driver seat module (DSM) fuses:
      • CJB fuse 109 (30A)
      • CJB fuse 3 (7.5A)
    • Heated seat module fuses:
      • CJB fuse 118 (30A)
      • CJB 18 (10A)
    • Circuitry
    • Memory SET switch
    • Seat control switch
    • Heated seat element (damaged seat coverings or foam pad)
    • Heated seat module
    • Power seat motor (seat track)
    • Driver seat module DSM
    • Electronic automatic temperature control (EATC) module
  3. If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.
  4. If the concern is with the power seat (non-memory seat) or climate controlled seat and the cause is not visually evident, verify the symptom and Go to Symptom Chart .
  5. NOTE: Make sure to use the latest scan tool software release.
  6. If the concern is with the memory seat and the cause is not visually evident, connect the scan tool to the data link connector (DLC).
  7. NOTE: The vehicle communication module (VCM) LED prove out confirms power and ground from the DLC are provided to the VCM.
  8. If the scan tool does not communicate with the VCM:
    • check the VCM connection to the vehicle.
    • check the scan tool connection to the VCM.
  9. If the scan tool does not communicate with the vehicle:
    • verify the ignition key is in the ON position.
    • verify the scan tool operation with a known good vehicle.
  10. Carry out the network test.
    • If the network test passes, retrieve and record continuous memory diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).
  11. Clear the continuous DTCs and carry out the self-test diagnostics for the DSM.
  12. If the on-demand DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to DSM Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Chart. For all other DTCs, refer to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES article.
  13. If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, go to Symptom Chart .
