Pinpoint Test L: The Turn Signal Lamps Are Inoperative

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2007 Lincoln Mark LT and 2007 Ford Pickup. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION: Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.
  1. L1 CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE INDICATOR FLASHER RELAY
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Indicator Flasher Relay C2047
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between the indicator flasher relay C2047-2, circuit 296 (WH/VT), harness side and ground.

    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
    1. YES  : Go to  L3.
    2. NO  : VERIFY the CJB fuse 13 (10A) is OK. If OK, go to  L2 .
  2. L2 CHECK CIRCUIT 296 (WH/VT) FOR AN OPEN
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: CJB C270e
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between the CJB C270e pin 23, circuit 296 (WH/VT), component side and ground.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
    1. YES  : Go to  L4.
    2. NO  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  4. L4 CHECK CIRCUIT 44 (LB) FOR AN OPEN OR SHORT TO GROUND
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Multifunction Switch C202c
    • Measure the resistance between the multifunction switch C202c-4, circuit 44 (LB), harness side and the indicator flasher relay C2047-1, circuit 44 (LB), harness side; and between the multifunction switch C202c-4, circuit 44 (LB), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the multifunction switch and the indicator flasher relay; and greater than 10,000 ohms between the multifunction switch and ground?
    1. YES  : Go to  L5.
    2. NO  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  5. L5 CHECK THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH
    • Carry out the multifunction switch component test. Refer to COMPONENT TESTING.
    • Is the multifunction switch OK?
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new indicator flasher relay. TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : INSTALL a new multifunction switch. REFER to STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES article. TEST the system for normal operation.
